Article Synopsis
  • Blue light exposure has been linked to retinal injury, prompting a study on whether stromal vascular fraction cells (SVFCs) can help mitigate this damage in rats.
  • The rats were divided into groups, with some exposed to blue light and others receiving SVFC injections, leading to assessments of their physical, physiological, and retinal tissue health over time.
  • Results indicated that while blue light exposure resulted in significant retinal damage, the SVFC-treated group showed notable improvements, suggesting that SVFCs may help protect against and repair blue light-induced retinal injury via specific signaling pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Real-time monitoring of early-age concrete strength using advanced nano-enhanced sensors is crucial for preventing unexpected fractures and ensuring structural integrity.
  • This study introduces a hybrid method (NDT-LSTMs-ANN) that combines Non-Destructive Testing techniques with machine learning models to predict concrete strength based on various factors like water-to-cement ratio, temperature, and curing time.
  • The results indicate that using piezoelectric-based electro-mechanical impedance technology with these advanced sensors significantly improves concrete strength estimation and enhances safety and efficiency in construction.

The importance of the fuel injection configuration on the propulsion efficiency of high-speed vehicles is apparent. In this article, the use of an annular extruded 4-lobe nozzle for the injection of fuel jet in a supersonic combustor of a scramjet engine in the existence of a shock generator is examined. The main aim of this study is to obtain the efficient jet arrangement for efficient fuel mixing inside the engine of hypersonic vehicles.

Article Synopsis
  • Head and neck cancer (HNC) involves cancers of the mucosal surfaces from the sinuses to the larynx, with around 3900 new cases annually in women and 8600 in men from 2016-2018.
  • A study assessed the teaching on HNC for UK medical students, finding that 23.2% received no education on it, and 54.3% of those who did were taught through large lectures.
  • The majority (87.1%) of respondents felt there should be more focus on HNC in medical training, highlighting concerns about current knowledge and confidence in recognizing symptoms and referral criteria.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence, antimicrobial susceptibility pattern and associated factors of urinary tract infection (UTI) among pregnant women attending Hargeisa Group Hospital (HGH), Hargeisa, Somaliland. A cross-sectional study was conducted at HGH, Hargeisa, Somaliland and participants were selected by systematic random sampling technique. Clean catch midstream urine samples were collected from 422 participants and cultured and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern was determined for the isolates.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 across the world and the increased need for non-contact thermometers to prevent the spread of disease, a new electronic thermometer has been designed and implemented for measuring human body temperature from a distance. This device is currently in use at building entrances to measure the body temperatures of employees, students, and customers. This system is designed using low-cost easy-to-assemble open-source electronic components.

Unlabelled: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Although uncommon, it should be included in the differential diagnosis for middle-aged patients without elevated atherosclerotic vascular disease risk or a family history of cardiovascular disease. SCAD is associated with postpartum women; however, reports noting its association with autoimmune disease and vasculopathy in other populations have recently gained prominence.

Objectives: To compare a new procedure of reduction clitoro-labioplasty to clitoro-labiectomy in the management of adult onset clitoro-labiomegaly, and to show the disadvantages of the latter procedure that produces female genital mutilation and sexual dysfunction.

Methods: This controlled, descriptive, comparative and prospective cohort study was performed at Kasr El-Aini School of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt. 47 cases of clitoro-labiomegaly, 12 with known causes of intersex, were diagnosed and treated by reduction clitoro-labioplasty.
