Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a group of cancers characterized by diverse origins and changing epidemiological patterns. The significance of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in certain HNSCC cases has gained attention for its impact on the disease's behavior. Our current research focused on exploring the importance of using p16 as an HNSCC biomarker, particularly in the context of HPV infection, assessing its value in prognosis, and examining its variation across different tumor locations.

Sulfur mustard (SM) is a harmful warfare agent that poses a serious threat to human health and the environment. Thus, the design of porous materials capable of sensing and/or capturing SM is of utmost importance. In this paper, the interactions of SM and its derivatives with ethylpillar[5]arene (EtP[5]) and the interactions between SM and a variety of host macrocycles were investigated through molecular docking calculations and non-covalent interaction (NCI) analysis.

Background And Purpose: Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is a specialized radiotherapy treatment technique for Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM) in which Computed Tomography (CT) images are used for dose calculations. The purpose of this study was to investigate CT image distortions caused by embolic agents and quantify the influence of these distortions on dose calculations.

Methods: Eight AVM patients administered embolic agents prior to SRS were included.

COVID-19 complications still present a huge burden on healthcare systems and warrant predictive risk models to triage patients and inform early intervention. Here, we profile 893 plasma proteins from 50 severe and 50 mild-moderate COVID-19 patients, and 50 healthy controls, and show that 375 proteins are differentially expressed in the plasma of severe COVID-19 patients. These differentially expressed plasma proteins are implicated in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 and present targets for candidate drugs to prevent or treat severe complications.

Article Synopsis
  • Current guidelines recommend introducing allergenic foods to infants as early as 4-6 months old, but there’s uncertainty around caregivers’ knowledge and compliance with these practices.
  • A study at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University involved 405 mothers of children aged 12-36 months, revealing that on average, allergenic foods were introduced later than recommended: at around 9.84 months for eggs and 14.6 months for peanuts.
  • Most mothers were unaware of the benefits of timely introduction of allergenic foods, and only a small percentage received accurate information from healthcare providers, highlighting a need for better education on food allergy prevention.

Although most commonly benign, neurofibromas (NFs) can have devastating functional and cosmetic effects in addition to the possibility of malignant transformation. Orbitofacial NFs, in particular, may cause progressive, disfiguring tumors of the lid, brow, temple, face, and orbit, and clinical evidence suggests that they may have increased local aggressiveness compared to NFs developing at other sites. The purpose of this study was to identify biological differences between orbitofacial NFs and those occurring at other anatomic sites.
