Article Synopsis
  • Barium fluoride borosilicate glass samples, reinforced with varying amounts of GdO, were created to study their structural, physical, and optical properties as well as their ability to attenuate γ-rays.
  • X-ray diffraction confirmed the glasses were amorphous, and did show slight increases in density and molar volume with more GdO.
  • UV-Vis spectra indicated increased absorbance and shifts in optical properties, suggesting that these materials could be useful for opto-electronic devices and radiation shielding.

Article Synopsis
  • Rheumatic fever (RF), an autoimmune condition following untreated strep throat, mainly impacts children and can lead to serious heart issues, highlighting the need for awareness and prevention, especially in low-resource areas.
  • A study in Al-Baha, Saudi Arabia, surveyed 415 parents using an online questionnaire to evaluate their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding RF and RHD, revealing that most participants had poor knowledge and negative attitudes toward RF.
  • Results showed that only around 4.8% had good knowledge of RF, while 69.2% demonstrated good practices; females were more likely to have better practices than males, suggesting a need for enhanced educational initiatives by health authorities to improve understanding and prevention of these

Kidney stone disease is a widespread urological disorder affecting millions globally. Timely diagnosis is crucial to avoid severe complications. Traditionally, renal stones are detected using computed tomography (CT), which, despite its effectiveness, is costly, resource-intensive, exposes patients to unnecessary radiation, and often results in delays due to radiology report wait times.

Introduction: Primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumours (PHNETs) are a rare form of hepatic neoplasms, and it is difficult to differentiate them from common hepatic malignancies in routine imaging studies.

Presentation Of The Case: We describe the case of a 60-year-old Indian male patient with a tentative preoperative diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Nevertheless, the definitive post-operative diagnosis was made by Histopathological and immunohistochemical assessment, which revealed a grade II neuroendocrine tumour (NET) of moderate differentiation.

This research explores DNA consistency and attempts to detect STR profiles from the degrading menstrual blood samples (MBS) as reliable forensic evidence. Peripheral (PBS) and MBS of 30 healthy fertile females were taken on the menstrual cycle's second day. They were obtained at different time periods (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 24, and 48 h) at 25 °C.

The activity of a kinesin is largely determined by the approximately 350 residue motor domain, and this region alone is sufficient to classify a kinesin as a member of a particular family. The kinesin-13 family are a group of microtubule depolymerizing kinesins and are vital regulators of microtubule length. Kinesin-13s are critical to spindle assembly and chromosome segregation in both mitotic and meiotic cell division and play crucial roles in cilium length control and neuronal development.

Silicone rubbers are a good choice for shielding materials because of having elastic and attenuating properties as well as cost-effectiveness. Thus, the aim of this study was to prepare ground-breaking silicone rubber samples by adding WO-nanoparticles and testing the performance of their radiation shielding ability against Cs-137, Co-60, and Am-241 gamma energy. Increasing the concentration of WO nanoparticles in silicone rubber (SR) led to decreasing the half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) values determined for the samples tested.

The purpose of this research is to identify the radiation shielding capability of ceramics adding CuO, CdO, and BiO with diverse wt (%). The chemical compositions of the raw ceramics were documented through Energy Dispersive X-ray "EDX" techniques. For aesthetic appeal and solidification, CuO has been chosen to be added to ceramic.

Introduction: Ascites that precede laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an infrequent event. Its actual mechanism is not identified, but an inflammatory or allergic peritoneal reaction has been proposed. It can a life-threatening or an acute serious condition; for instance, the bile duct or other visceral injuries are eliminated.

Uranium-238 (U) and potassium-40 (K) are important naturally occurring radionuclides. Gamma spectroscopy is a direct, non-destructive method used to determine radionuclide concentrations, but it suffers from the interference of gamma lines. K gamma spectroscopy is affected by background interference, which leads to a reduction in the minimum detectable activity.

In this work, we examined novel polymer composites for use in radiation protection applications. These prepared polymers are non-toxic compared with lead and show potential to be used as protective gear in different medical applications where low-energy photons are utilized. We prepared silicon rubber (SR) with different concentrations of micro- and nano-sized MgO.

Inflammation plays a role in the etiopathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A retrospective case-control study was conducted to assess the significance of the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) as a systemic inflammatory indicator in dry AMD. Clinical diagnosis and complete blood count (CBC) results were extracted from medical records for patients with dry AMD and age/sex-matched controls.

Materials with ferroelectric properties, low bandgap energies, high polarization, low loss, and thermal stability are essential for future solar-cell applications. Researchers have attempted to obtain such materials by using several approaches. In this vein, a novel approach is reported in this work using gamma ray irradiation.

The crystal structure and magnetic state of the (1 − x)BiFeO3-(x)BiMnO3 solid solution has been analyzed by X-ray diffraction using lab-based and synchrotron radiation facilities, magnetization measurements, differential thermal analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. Dopant concentration increases lead to the room-temperature structural transitions from the polar-active rhombohedral phase to the antipolar orthorhombic phase, and then to the monoclinic phase accompanied by the formation of two-phase regions consisting of the adjacent structural phases in the concentration ranges 0.25 < x1 < 0.

In this work, the absorption and desorption isotherms of hydrogen on TiCrMnFeRE (RE = La, Ce, Ho) metals were collected at three temperatures under the same experimental conditions. This was carried out in order to determine the rare earth effect on the hydrogen storage performance of the TiCrMnFe metal. The equilibrium data showing the hydrogen absorbed/released amounts per unit of absorbent mass have provided useful details to describe the absorption/desorption processes.

Background: Obesity and diabetes are two chronic metabolic diseases whose prevalence is increasing at an alarming rate globally. A close association between obesity, diabetes, and insulin resistance has been identified, and many studies have pinpointed obesity as a causal risk factor for insulin resistance. However, the mechanism underlying this association is not entirely understood.

Introduction: With the attack of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world, many countries have opted for the lockdown for preventing the spread of the virus. There have been many proposals for the prevention at individual level. These include repeated washing of hands, the sanitization, and the usage of the mouth masks.

Chest X-ray (CXR) imaging is a standard and crucial examination method used for suspected cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In profoundly affected or limited resource areas, CXR imaging is preferable owing to its availability, low cost, and rapid results. However, given the rapidly spreading nature of COVID-19, such tests could limit the efficiency of pandemic control and prevention.
