Personalized Tests in Paralympic Athletes: Aerobic and Anaerobic Performance Profile of Elite Wheelchair Rugby Players.

In Paralympic sports, the goal of functional classifications is to minimize the impact of impairment on the outcome of the competition. The present cross-sectional study aimed to investigate aerobic and anaerobic personalized tests in Paralympic athletes and to correlate them with the classification of the international wheelchair rugby federation (IWRF). Sixteen elite players of the Italian wheelchair rugby team volunteered for the study.

Kinematic bidimensional analysis of the propulsion technique in wheelchair rugby athletes.

Wheelchair rugby is a sport ideated for individuals with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) which is extremely important for maintaining their neuromuscular abilities and improving their social and psychological wellbeing. However, due to the frequent changes in direction and speed it considerably stresses the players' upper limbs. 13 athletes have undergone two sports-related tests on an inertial drum bench and several kinematic parameters have been registered.

Patient education and rehabilitation after hip arthroplasty in an Italian spa center: a pilot study on its feasibility.

Nowadays, some spa centers are suitable for providing rehabilitative and preventive treatment in association with traditional spa therapy. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and the effectiveness of an intensive rehabilitation program after hip arthroplasty in an Italian spa center. Early after total hip arthroplasty for severe osteoarthritis (≤ 10 days after the intervention), 12 consecutive patients (5 males and 7 females) aged between 50 and 85 years were enrolled for this study.

Comparison of two different techniques of reperfusion in adult orthotopic liver transplantation.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of two reperfusion techniques on the peri-operative hemodynamic changes and early post-operative graft function of adult patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation.

Material And Methods: From June 2003 to May 2004, 50 consecutive liver transplants were performed and divided into two groups: group A, 25 patients, portal vein flush with 500 cm(3) of Ringer's lactate without vena caval venting. Group B, 25 patients, vena caval venting with no portal vein flush.
