Functionally bivalent non-covalent Fab dimers (Bi-Fabs) specific for the TCR/CD3 complex promote CD3 signaling on T cells. While comparing functional responses to stimulation with Bi-Fab, F(ab')2 or mAb specific for the same CD3 epitope, we observed fratricide requiring anti-CD3 bridging of adjacent T cells. Surprisingly, anti-CD3 Bi-Fab ranked first in fratricide potency, followed by anti-CD3 F(ab')2 and anti-CD3 mAb.

Using Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data, we previously showed that the AI/AN race/ethnicity variable was not associated with asthma and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a BRFSS-defined subset of 11 states historically recognized as having a relatively high proportion of AI/AN residents. Here, we investigate the contributions of the AI/AN variable and other sociodemographic determinants to disease disparity in the remaining 39 US states and territories.

This is especially true for underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students. Despite the increasing number of students entering the pipeline, American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) students still have a higher attrition rate compared to other ethnic groups.

However, the association between infection and the immunoglobulin-secreting (Ig-secreting) B proliferative disorders remains largely unresolved. We investigated whether the monoclonal IgG (mc IgG) produced by patients diagnosed with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) or multiple myeloma (MM) targets infectious pathogens.

In T lymphocytes, antigen recognition triggers signal transduction by clustering T cell receptor (TCR)/CD3 multiprotein complexes. In addition, it hypothesized that biophysical changes induced in TCR/CD3 that accompany receptor engagement may contribute to signal intensity.

However, aggregation of Fab preparations is a common occurrence, which generates intrinsic stimulatory capacity and thwarts signal blockade strategies. Using a panel of biochemical approaches, including size exclusion chromatography, SDS-PAGE, mass spectrometry, and cell stimulation followed by flow cytometry, we have measured the oligomerization and acquisition of stimulatory capacity that occurs in four monoclonal IgG Fabs specific for TCR/CD3.

Porphyrin hosts reported here exist in a conformation that is not favorable to guest binding. Anions that bind strongly are those that can induce a conformational change in the host to allow guest binding.
