Computational prediction of molecule-protein interactions has been key for developing new molecules to interact with a target protein for therapeutics development. Previous work includes two independent streams of approaches: (1) predicting protein-protein interactions (PPIs) between naturally occurring proteins and (2) predicting binding affinities between proteins and small-molecule ligands [also known as drug-target interaction (DTI)]. Studying the two problems in isolation has limited the ability of these computational models to generalize across the PPI and DTI tasks, both of which ultimately involve noncovalent interactions with a protein target.

The treatment of Ochratoxin A (OTA), present in many agricultural commodities including wine, is unsatisfying even by adsorption to fining agents, such as the commercial clay montmorillonite (MMT), bentonite. We developed, characterized and tested new clay-polymer nanocomposites (CPNs) to optimize OTA treatment, adsorption and OTA-CPN removal by sedimentation, while maintaining product quality. Ectotherm body temperatures fluctuate with environmental variability and host behavior, which may influence host-pathogen interactions. Fungal pathogens are a major threat to ectotherms and may be highly responsive to the fluctuating thermal profiles of individual hosts, especially cool-loving fungi exposed to high host temperatures. Invasions often accelerate through time, as dispersal-enhancing traits accumulate at the expanding range edge. How does the dispersal behaviour of individual organisms shift to increase rates of population spread? We collate data from 44 radio-tracking studies (in total, of 650 animals) of cane toads (Rhinella marina) to quantify distances moved per day, and the frequency of displacement in their native range (French Guiana) and two invaded areas (Hawai'i and Australia). We show that toads in their native-range, Hawai'i and eastern Australia are relatively sedentary, while toads dispersing across tropical Australia increased their daily distances travelled from 20 to 200 m per day.

The transport activity of the sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (SERCA) in cardiac myocytes is modulated by an inhibitory interaction with a transmembrane peptide, phospholamban (PLB). Previous biochemical studies have revealed that PLB interacts with a specific inhibitory site on SERCA, and low-resolution structural evidence suggests that PLB interacts with distinct alternative sites on SERCA.
