Background: According to international guidelines, standard treatment (ST) with curative intent in cervical cancer (CC) comprises radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy in early stages (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) 2009 IB1, IIA1), adjuvant chemoradiation is recommended based on risk factors upon final pathology. Definitive chemoradiation is recommended in locally advanced stages (FIGO 2009 IB2, IIA2, IIB). Total mesometrial resection (TMMR) with therapeutic lymph node dissection (tLND) without adjuvant radiation has emerged as a promising treatment.

We report the C-H activation of thioethers to α-thio alkyl radicals and their addition to -methoxyheteroarenium salts for the redox-neutral synthesis of α-heteroaromatic thioethers. Studies are consistent with a two-step activation mechanism, where oxidation of thioethers to sulfide radical cations by a photoredox catalyst is followed by α-C-H deprotonation by a weak Brønsted base catalyst to afford α-thio alkyl radicals. Further, -methoxyheteroarenium salts play additional roles as a source of methoxyl radical that contributes to α-thio alkyl radical generation and a sacrificial oxidant that regenerates the photoredox catalytic cycle.

Records of 84,703 Brangus animals, born from 2000 to 2010 distributed in 65 farms in Brazil were used. Infrared thermography of the lateral side portion of the udder was taken from 38 lactating cows in a 6-day experiment. Thermograms were analyzed using specific software with the use of eight different methods. The experiment was aimed at correlating the different methods with each other and with rectal temperature (RT), in order to suggest a method to assess udder side temperature, and also at creating regression equations to enable RT calculation through the use of thermographic data.

A one-pot synthesis of dihydronaphthalenes and arylnaphthalenes from epoxides and common dipolarophiles is described. The reaction proceeds through photoredox activation of epoxides to carbonyl ylides, which undergo concerted [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition with dipolarophiles to provide tetrahydrofurans or 2,5-dihydrofurans. In the same flask, acid promoted rearrangement affords densely functionalized dihydronaphthalenes and arylnaphthalenes, respectively, in an overall redox-neutral sequence of transformations.

Tight junctions are almost impermeable structures located near the apical border of epithelial cells; increase in the permeability of mammary gland cells' tight junctions may alter milk composition and its suitability for industrialization. Sixteen Holstein dairy cows were studied to evaluate mammary gland cells' tight junction permeability (indicated by plasma lactose levels) from cows producing stable or unstable milk to ethanol at 72 °GL concentration. Rectal temperature, respiratory rate and milk parameters were also compared and weather conditions (temperature-humidity index) monitored.

Herein, we detail a unified synthetic approach to the classical lignan family of natural products that hinges on divergence from a common intermediate that was strategically identified from nature's biosynthetic blueprints. Efforts toward accessing the common intermediate through a convergent and modular approach resulted in the discovery of a sterically encumbered photoredox catalyst that can selectively generate carbonyl ylides from electron-rich epoxides. These can undergo concerted [3 + 2] dipolar cycloadditions to afford tetrahydrofurans, which were advanced (2-4 steps) to at least one representative natural product or natural product scaffold within all six subtypes in classical lignans.

The reaction proceeds through in situ generation of sulfonium salts from benzyl alcohols and their subsequent deprotonation for use in Corey-Chaykovsky epoxidation of aldehydes. The generality of the method is exemplified by the synthesis of 34 epoxides that were made from an array of electronically and sterically varied alcohols and aldehydes.

We report the exploration into photoredox generation of carbonyl ylides from benzylic epoxides using newly designed 4-mesityl-2,6-diphenylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate (MDPT) and 4-mesityl-2,6-di-p-tolylpyrylium tetrafluoroborate (MD(p-tolyl)PT) catalysts. These catalysts are excited at visible wavelengths, are highly robust, and exhibit some of the highest oxidation potentials reported. Their utility was demonstrated in the mild and efficient generation of carbonyl ylides from benzylic epoxides that otherwise could not be carried out by current common photoredox catalysts.
