The indication for percutaneous aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has increased considerably in recent years, preferably using transfemoral access (TF); however, it is not clear which should be the preferred access in the event of contraindications to the latter. We present an 81-year-old patient with high surgical risk in whom a 50% obstruction of the descending aortic lumen was identified and so, a left transcarotid access was chosen. Numerous alternative approaches to the TF approach have been described in recent years.

Background: There is little information on the performance of the new generation of stents with bioabsorbable polymers in the Latin American population. This registry aimed to further validate the safety and efficacy of the Orsiro bioresorbable-polymer sirolimus-eluting stent (BPSES) in unselected patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Chilean centers.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients undergoing PCI with BPSES in 6 Chilean centers.

Several studies have shown that double mobility (DM) cups reduce postoperative dislocations. Does the cemented dual mobility cup reduce dislocations in a specific cohort of elder patients with a high dislocation risk? Our hypothesis is that this implant is optimal for elder patients because it reduces early dislocation. We have retrospectively reviewed elder patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) with cemented double mobility cup between March 2009 and January 2018.

Background: TGF-β has been described as a mediator of fibrosis and scarring. Several studies achieved reduction in experimental scarring through the inhibition of TGF-β. Fibroblasts have been defined as the cell population originating fibrosis, blocking fibroblast invasion may impair epidural fibrosis appearance.

Background: In postoperative patients with metallic implants, CT scans can become less effective due to metal-related arti-facts. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a specific metal artifact reduction image protocol, in order to reduce the metal artifact caused by titanium pedicular screws in patients undergoing lumbar pathology by lumbar fusion. This enables surgeons to make an accurate diagnosis of the exact placement of inserted pedicle screws, making this the preferred image modality for assessing screw position after surgery.

Study Design: Case report.

Objective: The aim of this work is to describe a case of infected vertebroplasty due to uncommon bacteria solved surgically with 2 years of follow-up and to discuss 6 other cases found in literature.

Summary Of Background Data: Vertebroplasty is a well-known and useful technique for the treatment of painful osteoporotic vertebral fractures.
