Utility of Serum L-lactate in Identifying Ischemia in Acute Intestinal Obstruction: A Prospective Observational Study.

Introduction In cases of intestinal obstruction, increasing luminal dilatation compromises bowel wall perfusion, eventually resulting in intestinal ischemia and bowel necrosis in advanced cases. Elevated L-lactate, as a biomarker of ischemia, may indicate the presence of bowel ischemia in cases of obstruction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the value of serum L-lactate measurement in predicting the presence of intraoperatively observed intestinal ischemia in patients with acute intestinal obstruction.

It is time to define an organizational model for the prevention and management of infections along the surgical pathway: a worldwide cross-sectional survey.

Background: The objectives of the study were to investigate the organizational characteristics of acute care facilities worldwide in preventing and managing infections in surgery; assess participants' perception regarding infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, antibiotic prescribing practices, and source control; describe awareness about the global burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and IPC measures; and determine the role of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic on said awareness.

Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted contacting 1432 health care workers (HCWs) belonging to a mailing list provided by the Global Alliance for Infections in Surgery. The self-administered questionnaire was developed by a multidisciplinary team.

Laparoscopic management of an uncommon cause for right lower quadrant pain: A case report.

Introduction: Primary segmental infarction of the greater omentum is an infrequent cause for right lower quadrant pain. The exact aetiology is unknown and the right side is more commonly involved. It usually presents like acute appendicitis and the diagnosis is made during exploration.

Laparoscopic mesh splenopexy (sandwich technique) for wandering spleen.

Background: Wandering spleen is a rare clinical condition caused by incomplete fusion of the 4 primary splenic ligaments, allowing the spleen to be mobile within the abdomen, predisposing to splenic torsion along the vascular pedicle leading to splenomegaly and infarction, often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

Methods: The wandering spleen diagnosis was achieved by ultrasound in our case. We successfully treated the patient with laparoscopic splenopexy because the size was almost normal, and no infarction or evidence of hypersplenism was present.

Laparoscopic appendectomy for mucocele of the appendix: Report of 8 cases.

Mucocele of the appendix is an aseptic dilatation secondary to obstruction. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice in benign mucocele. The incidence of mucocele of the appendix in our center is 0.

Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in children.

Background: This study aimed to document the authors' experience with laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in children.

Methods: Ninety-three hernia repairs were performed in 64 children. The neck was closed with a purse string suture by using 4-0 absorbable suture.

Laparoscopic repair of high rectovaginal fistula: is it technically feasible?

Background: Rectovaginal fistula (RVF) is an epithelium-lined communication between the rectum and vagina. Most RVFs are acquired, the most common cause being obstetric trauma. Most of the high RVFs are repaired by conventional open surgery.
