Angle-closure glaucoma associated with vitreous prolapse after neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminumgarnet laser posterior capsulotomy.

Capsulotomy with neodymium-doped yttriumaluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser is an effective treatment for posterior capsule opacification following cataract surgery. A wide opening of the posterior capsule associated with the ruptured anterior hyaloid can cause anterior chamber vitreous prolapse. Two patients who developed angle-closure glaucoma associated with vitreous prolapse following Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy were successfully treated with antiglaucoma medication and peripheral iridotomies.

Anatomic and refractional correlations in earliest glaucomatous visual field defects.

Purpose: In glaucoma, initial visual field scotomas can be peripheral or central, whereas central scotomas are more severe and can disrupt daily activities. Individual anatomical features may influence the distribution of retinal nerve fibers and the starting site of visual field defects in glaucoma. In this study, we aimed to correlate myopia and hyperopia or anatomical variation of the disk-fovea angle with initial central or peripheral lesions in the visual field.

COVID-19: risk of ocular transmission in health care professionals.

Introduction: The current pandemic of severe acute respiratory symptom coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has had a major impact on individuals' lives. Social isolation and the use of personal protective equipment - the latter being especially important for health care workers - emerged as two of the main methods of preventing the spread of the disease. The eye can represent a source of transmission through contaminated tears, as well as a source of infection for respiratory droplets or aerosol particles, which may come into contact with the ocular surface and migrate to the lungs and other parts of the body.

Acute angle closure triggered by oral benzodiazepines.

Benzodiazepines are psychoactive drugs that are prescribed worldwide with limited information on their ocular side effects. Acute angle closure glaucoma is an adverse event with a high risk of blinding, especially in the elderly. We report two patients under 45 years old who presented with bilateral acute angle closure secondary to use of two long half-life benzodiazepines (clonazepam and alprazolam).

Ophthalmological findings in ectodermal dysplasia, ectrodactyly, and macular dystrophy syndrome: a case report.

We report on a case of two sisters, daughters of consanguineous parents, presenting with a similar condition of low visual acuity associated with retinal dystrophy in both eyes associated with alopecia and bone alterations or syndactyly.

Profile of occupational eye injury at an ophthalmologic emergency department.

Background: Eye injury is the most frequent reason for visits to ophthalmological emergency departments, being one of the leading causes of avoidable blindness worldwide and having considerable socioeconomic impact on health systems and populations.

Objective: To establish the epidemiologic profile of eye injuries caused by work accidents, visual sequelae and socioeconomic impact.

Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted by reviewing the medical records of patients with occupational eye injury treated at an ophthalmologic emergency department from April to August 2016.

Feasibility of laser trabeculoplasty in angle closure glaucoma: a review of favourable histopathological findings in narrow angles.

Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) has been indicated as a safe and efficient treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma; however, recent studies have also shown positive results with the use of SLT in some clinical conditions related to primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Despite the potential benefits of SLT in selected cases of PACG, the mechanisms underlying the modifications in the trabecular meshwork tissue of patients with PACG are poorly understood. This narrative review approached both the current, limited knowledge about the histological changes observed in different forms of PACG and the clinical results of SLT treatment for PACG.
