Split hand/foot malformation is a heterogeneous congenital disorder mainly presented with a median cleft of hands or/and feet. It can be associated with long bone aplasia, a syndrome also known as split hand/foot syndrome with long bone deficiency (SHFLD), which is a very rare condition. We report a very rare case of a male fetus with SHFLD syndrome combined with fibular aplasia, tibial campomelia, and oligosyndactyly (FATCO) syndrome.

Here, we conduct a genome-wide association study meta-analysis across 826,690 individuals (177,517 with osteoarthritis) and identify 100 independently associated risk variants across 11 osteoarthritis phenotypes, 52 of which have not been associated with the disease before. We report thumb and spine osteoarthritis risk variants and identify differences in genetic effects between weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing joints.

We present our experience with a deltoid preserving approach that allows excellent exposure of the fracture lines for reduction and fixation while minimizing muscle detachment and overall tissue trauma.
Technique: Exposure of the scapula was obtained through a posterior incision.
Background: Massive rotator cuff tears pose a difficult and complex challenge even for the experienced surgeon; inability to repair these tears by conventional means designates them as irreparable, while management becomes quite taxing. Several operative options have been suggested for the management of such lesions with varying degrees of success, while it is imperative to match patient demands and expectations to the predicted outcome.
Methods: Research articles are examined and key concepts are discussed, in order to provide an evidence based review of the available literature.
Purpose: Control of hydration status is an important constituent of adequate and efficient hemodialysis (HD) treatment. Nevertheless, there are no precise clinical indices for early recognition of small changes in fluid status of patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis therapy. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the widely used and reliable method of indexed inferior vena cava diameter (IVCDi) with established and more recently available techniques (bioelectrical impedance analysis [BIA], continuous blood volume monitoring [Crit-line], and the B-line score [BLS] with lung ultrasonography) for estimating the hydration status of patients on HD.

Galectin-3 (GAL-3) and CRIP-1 are multifunctional proteins which seem to be involved in many neoplasias. This study aims to point out correlations between clinicopathological findings and endometrial cancer patient survival to GAL-3 and CRIP-1 expression in order to enfold their diagnostic/prognostic potential.

Cyclopia is a rare type of holoprosencephaly and a congenital disorder characterized by the failure of the embryonic forebrain to properly divide the orbits of the eye into two cavities (the embryonic forebrain is normally responsible for inducing the development of the orbits). As a result a birth defect in which there is only one eye is developed. This eye is centrally placed in the area normally occupied by the root of the nose.

The animal was evaluated for unusual bilateral scrotal enlargement. After physical examination, ultrasound scan, radiography, computed tomography and laparoscopy, surgical exploration of the scrotum was undertaken.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the co-expression of survivin, c-erbB2, and COX-2 in endometrial cancer tissues and evaluate its prognostic significance in endometrial cancer
Methods: Tumor tissue biopsies from 110 patients with primary untreated endometrial carcinomas were studied by immunohistochemistry. Statistical analysis evaluated correlation of antigen expression with tumor stage, grade, myometrial invasion, and histologic type. Association with disease outcome was also investigated
Results: The results showed that expression of the three antigens was independently associated with histological grade, disease stage, and myometrial invasion.
Aim: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy has revolutionized lymph node staging in patients with malignant melanoma. Intraoperative evaluation is a new addition to the SLN procedure that allows for a one-step regional lymph node dissection to be performed when the SLN biopsy findings are positive. The discriminatory immunostaining pattern with the S-100 and HMB45 monoclonal antibodies allows intraoperative immunocytochemical evaluation of imprint smears of SLNs for melanoma metastases.

Unlabelled: Once lymphoid precursors enter the thymus form the blood stream, they come into contact with thymic stromal cells that guide their maturation into functionally competent T cells. Thymic myoid cells are one such cell type. They have been described as a regular constituent of the thymus of embryonic and young vertebrates and express muscle proteins including myosin, desmin, acetylcholine receptor (AChR), C-protein, MyoD, troponin T, rapsyn, and utrophin.

Implantation of cancer cells from needle biopsy has been reported in a wide range of malignancies. Fine needle aspiration biopsy has become an accepted method for assessment of thyroid nodules. Local reappearance of thyroid cancer from needle track dissemination is a rare complication of thyroid aspiration.

Materials And Methods: c-erb-B2 reactivity was assessed by immunohistochemistry in 110 patients using a polyclonal antibody, and evaluated semiquantitatively according to the percentage of cells demonstrating membranous or diffuse cytoplasmic staining. Correlation was made with tumor stage, grade, myometrial invasion, histologic type, and disease outcome.
Cemento-ossifying fibroma is a relatively rare tumor classified between fibro-osseous lesions. This lesion appears within the bone although in some occasions it involves the gingivae soft tissues. It is a slow growing and well-defined tumorous lesion, because of this, it is considered as a benign lesion.

Despite increasing identification of concurrent gastric and intestinal lymphoma of MALT type, the clonal relationship between the tumors and their sequential development are poorly understood. It is also unknown whether the development of these concurrent tumors is closely associated with direct antigen stimulation, which is thought to play an important role in the clonal expansion of low grade MALT lymphomas.

Methods: Tissue sections from 15 pancreatic fetal specimens, and an equal number of ductal adenocarcinoma specimens were assessed.
Results: The density of positive cells in the primitive exocrine ductal epithelium and endocrine epithelium was significantly different from the relevant density in the neoplastic pancreatic tissue of mixed (ductal-endocrine) and pure ductal type (P1=0.
Background: Endometrial carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the female genital tract in the Western world. COX-2 is highly expressed in endometrial carcinoma, but there is controversy regarding its clinical role and its possible prognostic role. COX-2 expression was determined by immuno-histochemistry and was correlated to standard clinico-pathologic variables in a series of primary untreated endometrial carcinoma patients.
