Preventive effect of specific antioxidant on oxidative renal cell injury associated with renal crystal formation.

Objective: To investigate whether calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM), a key element of hyperoxaluria, would induce renal cell injury through oxidative stress and also whether certain antioxidants could prevent chemically induced renal crystal formation in rats.

Materials And Methods: COM-exerted oxidative stress on the kidney epithelial Madin-Darby canine kidney cells was assessed using the lipid peroxidation assay. Glyoxalase I (Gly-I) activity was also determined.

Novel technique of knotless hemostatic renal parenchymal suture repair during laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.

Free-hand parenchymal suturing during warm-ischemia, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is a complex and time-sensitive task. We describe a relatively simpler technique of achieving renal parenchymal hemostasis during laparoscopic partial nephrectomy using a polymer self-locking (Hem-o-Lok) clip.

Intrarenal manipulation of flexible ureteroscopes: a comparative study.

Objective: To compare the relative ease of manipulation around a calyceal model in the hands of experienced ureteroscopists of four flexible ureteroscopes (FUs), as new-generation FUs provide exaggerated active deflection to facilitate intrarenal manipulation.

Subjects And Methods: Four FUs of <7.5 F were tested: the FlexVision U-500 (SF) (Stryker Endoscopy, San Jose, CA, USA), the Dur-8 Elite (D8E) (ACMI, Southborough, MA, USA), the Viper (Richard Wolf Medical Instruments, Vernon Hills, IL, USA) and the URF-P3 (Olympus Surgical, Orangeburg, NY, USA).
