Oral spirochetes are among a small group of keystone pathogens contributing to dysregulation of tissue homeostatic processes that leads to breakdown of the tissue and bone supporting the teeth in periodontal disease. Additionally, our group has recently demonstrated that Treponema are among the dominant microbial genera detected intracellularly in tumor specimens from patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma. While over 60 species and phylotypes of oral Treponema have been detected, T.

Assisted living (AL) has existed in the United States for decades, evolving in response to older adults' need for supportive care and distaste for nursing homes and older models of congregate care. AL is state-regulated, provides at least 2 meals a day, around-the-clock supervision, and help with personal care, but is not licensed as a nursing home. The key constructs of AL as originally conceived were to provide person-centered care and promote quality of life through supportive and responsive services to meet scheduled and unscheduled needs for assistance, an operating philosophy emphasizing resident choice, and a residential environment with homelike features.

However, as panel size and complexity increase, so too does the detail involved in designing and optimizing successful high-quality panels fit for downstream high-dimensional data analysis. In contrast to conventional flow cytometers, full-spectrum flow cytometers measure the entire emission spectrum of each fluorophore across all lasers.

In light of the imminent COVID-19 vaccination roll out in both countries, representatives of all adult and paediatric allogeneic bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy (TCT) centres as well as representatives from autologous transplant only centres in Australia and New Zealand collaborated with infectious diseases specialists with expertise in TCT on this consensus position statement regarding COVID-19 vaccination in TCT patients in Australia and New Zealand. It is our recommendation that TCT patients, should have expedited access to high-efficacy COVID-19 vaccines given that these patients are at high risk of morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 infection.

Femoral de-rotation osteotomy (FDO) is a surgical option for symptomatic patients with such underlying bony deformity. This study aimed to investigate outcomes of FDO for management of symptomatic FAI in the presence of decreased (<5°) femoral anteversion.

Purpose: To update recommendations of the ASCO systemic therapy for hormone receptor (HR)-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC) guideline.
Methods: An Expert Panel conducted a systematic review to identify new, potentially practice-changing data.
Results: Fifty-one articles met eligibility criteria and form the evidentiary basis for the recommendations.
Background: Telehealth and teleradiology are increasingly used around the world to facilitate health care provision when the health care provider and clients are separated by distance. The BreastScreen Australia Remote Radiology Assessment Model (RRAM) is an initiative developed to address the challenges of inadequate access to a local radiological workforce in regional Australia. With the growth in telehealth innovations more broadly, the RRAM represents a departure from the traditional onsite model where a radiologist would be co-located with practice staff during assessment clinics.

Providing timely diagnostic assessment services for screen-detected abnormalities is a core quality indicator of the population-based screening program provided by BreastScreen Australia. However, a shortage of local and locum radiologists with availability and appropriate experience in breast work to attend onsite assessment clinics, limits capacity of services to offer assessment appointments to women in some regional centres.

This is possibly caused by their mode of action but also by their pharmacodynamic characteristics, which differ significantly from conventional antibiotics. Although pharmacodynamics of antibiotic resistant strains have been studied, such data are lacking for AMP resistant strains.

Introduction: Medications are associated with a higher incidence of adverse events than other healthcare interventions and they remain one of the most common causes of accidental harm to health consumers. Between 5 and 10% of medications administered to acutely unwell patients may include some form of medication administration error.

Background: Studying dietary patterns may provide insights into the potential effects of red and processed meat on health outcomes.
The novel dipstick DNA extraction method was tested for its reliability and usability for biological barcoding in comparison to a commercial kit and to a simplified isopropanol precipitation method using crayfish gill tissue. Following DNA extraction, the mitochondrial COI-gene was amplified in a PCR-reaction using a standard set of universal invertebrate primers. All three extraction techniques resulted in successful amplifications.

Methods: Linked data from New South Wales population-based and clinical cancer registries (2008-2012), hospital admissions, official death records and pharmaceutical benefit claims. Women aged ≥18 years receiving adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage operable breast cancer in NSW public hospitals were included.
To assess using a retrospective case control study, whether patients undergoing primary, elective total hip or knee arthroplasty who receive blood transfusion have a higher rate of post-operative infection compared to those who do not. Data on elective primary total hip or knee arthroplasty patients, including patient characteristics, co-morbidities, type and duration of surgery, blood transfusion, deep and superficial infection was extracted from the Alberta Bone and Joint Health Institute (ABJHI). Logistic regression analysis was used to compare deep infection and superficial infection in blood-transfused and non-transfused cohorts.

ColDx is a gene expression, microarray-based assay shown to be independently prognostic for recurrence-free interval (RFI) and overall survival in CC. The objective of this study was to further validate ColDx using formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens collected as part of the Alliance phase III trial, C9581.

Methods: The American Society of Clinical Oncology convened an Expert Panel to conduct a systematic review of evidence from 2008 through 2015 to create recommendations informed by that evidence. Outcomes of interest included sequencing of hormonal agents, hormonal agents compared with chemotherapy, targeted biologic therapy, and treatment of premenopausal women.
