Article Synopsis
  • Leprosy is a contagious disease causing physical disabilities and inflammatory episodes, but lacks definitive lab markers for diagnosing leprosy reactions, complicating its management.
  • A study analyzed 67 patients with multibacillary leprosy, focusing on inflammatory biomarkers like lymphocyte-platelet ratio and systemic immune-inflammation index, using various diagnostic methods.
  • Results indicated a positive association between leprosy reactions and the lymphocyte-platelet ratio, suggesting it could be a potential early indicator for recognizing these reactions, highlighting the need for further research.

Article Synopsis
  • - The intratarsal keratinous cyst (IKC) is a new type of eyelid cyst that can often be confused with a chalazion, leading to misdiagnosis.
  • - A 61-year-old male had a firm nodule on his upper eyelid, initially thought to be a chalazion; an excisional biopsy revealed it was actually an IKC.
  • - Accurate diagnosis is crucial, as IKCs need complete surgical removal to prevent multiple recurrences, unlike chalazions which may resolve on their own.

Clear cell papillary renal cell tumor is a common and sometimes underdiagnosed renal cell neoplasm. Its proper recognition is important because its diagnosis implies a remarkably high probability of indolent behavior. This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of a fibrous capsule, a cystic component, and a GATA3 expression in clear cell papillary renal cell tumors.

Primary cutaneous lymphomas are defined as the ones that exclusively affect the skin for up to 6 months after the diagnosis. B-cell lymphomas represent 20-25% of primary cutaneous lymphomas and have, among its subtypes, the leg type, which represents 10 to 20% of cutaneous B-cell lymphomas, generally affecting elderly people and with an intermediate prognosis. This is the report of a rare case of a leg-type B-cell lymphoma with an exuberant clinical presentation affecting a young male patient.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence and distribution of multinucleated giant cell (MGC) reactions in 61 cases of OTSCC and to verify the association of this microscopic finding with clinicopathological parameters (gender, age, tumor size/extent, regional lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, clinical stage, and histopathological grade of malignancy).

Methods: Clinical data were collected from medical records and the histopathological grade of malignancy of OTSCCs was evaluated using the World Health Organization (WHO) grading system. The presence and distribution of MGC reaction in high power fields (HPFs) were evaluated in hematoxylin-eosin-stained histological sections.

The tumor stroma plays a relevant role in the initiation and evolution of solid tumors. Tumor-stroma ratio (TSR) is a histological feature that expresses the proportion of the stromal component that surrounds cancer cells. In different studies, the TSR represents a potential prognostic factor: a rich stroma in tumor tissue can promote invasion and aggressiveness.

Studies have shown that Gleason grade 4 extent as well as architectural subtypes provide prognostic information. We aimed to evaluate the influence on biochemical recurrence following radical prostatectomy of patients with organ-confined tumor, Gleason score 7, and negative surgical margins. Total tumor extent, Gleason grade 4 total extent and the extent of each architectural subtype (fused glands, poorly defined glands, cribriform glands, and glomeruloid glands) were evaluated by a semiquantitative point-count method using different colors to identify each subtype.

Purpose: To investigate cardiac changes in young rats, whose mothers underwent autogenic fecal peritonitis, during organogenesis phase and to evaluate the role of intravenous administration of moxifloxacin and dexamethasone in preventing infection-related cardiac changes.

Methods: A prospective histomorphometric study was performed on 29 hearts of Wistar four-month old rats. Animals were divided into three groups: Negative Control Group (NCG) included 9 subjects from healthy mothers; Positive Control Group (PCG) included 10 subjects from mothers with fecal peritonitis (intra-abdominal injection of 10% autogenic fecal suspension in the gestational period) and did not receive any treatment; and Intervention Group (IG), with 10 animals whose infected mothers received moxifloxacin and dexamethasone treatment 24 hours after induction of fecal peritonitis.

Phenolic compounds, among them isopropyl caffeate, possess antioxidant potential, but not without toxicity and/or adverse effects. The present study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity and toxicity of isopropyl caffeate through in silico, and testing. The results showed that isopropyl caffeate presents no significant theoretical risk of toxicity, with likely moderate bioactivity: GPCR binding, ion channel modulation, nuclear receptor binding, and enzyme inhibition.

This report presents a case of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (eRMS) located in the left maxillary sinus and invading the orbital cavity in a ten-year-old male patient who was treated at a referral hospital. The images provided from the computed tomography showed a heterogeneous mass with soft-tissue density, occupying part of the left half of the face inside the maxillary sinus, and infiltrating and destroying the bone structure of the maxillary sinus, left orbit, ethmoidal cells, nasal cavity, and sphenoid sinus. An analysis of the histological sections revealed an undifferentiated malignant neoplasm infiltrating the skeletal muscle tissue.
