Photonic-Enhanced Perovskite Solar Cells: Tailoring Color and Light Capture.

The current exponential growth of solar electricity technologies toward consumer-oriented applications, as in building- or vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (B/VIPV), is calling for improved solar cells, not only in cost-effectiveness, but also with better adaptability and aesthetics. Here, using perovskite solar cells (PSCs) as test bed, we demonstrate an unprecedented photonic method to generate any color on a cell layout, while also increasing PV efficiency. To this end, photonic surface features were designed for PSCs, which filled the dual purpose of light-trapping (LT) and modulation of reflected light interference.

Understanding the Potential of Light Absorption in Dots-in-Host Semiconductors.

The outstanding physical properties of dots-in-host (QD@Host) hetero semiconductors demand detailed methods to fundamentally understand the best routes to optimize their potentialities for different applications. In this work, a 4-band k.p-based method was developed for rock-salt quantum dots (QDs) that describes the complete optical properties of arbitrary QD@Host systems, trailblazing the way for the full optoelectronic analysis of quantum-structured solar cells.

Advancement in SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis: A new and stable electrochemical biosensor for genomic RNA detection.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, having already caused more than seven million deaths worldwide. Conventional techniques for SARS-CoV-2 detection have limitations, as high cost, low specificity, and longer analysis time, among others. Biosensors emerge as a necessary alternative to overcome the difficulties of current diagnostics.

Photon shifting and trapping in perovskite solar cells for improved efficiency and stability.

Advanced light management techniques can enhance the sunlight absorption of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). When located at the front, they may act as a UV barrier, which is paramount for protecting the perovskite layer against UV-enabled degradation. Although it was recently shown that photonic structures such as Escher-like patterns could approach the theoretical Lambertian-limit of light trapping, it remains challenging to also implement UV protection properties for these diffractive structures while maintaining broadband absorption gains.

Molecular events accompanying aggregation-induced energy quenching in fucoxanthin-chlorophyll proteins.

In high light, the antenna system in oxygenic photosynthetic organisms switches to a photoprotective mode, dissipating excess energy in a process called non-photochemical quenching (NPQ). Diatoms exhibit very efficient NPQ, accompanied by a xanthophyll cycle in which diadinoxanthin is de-epoxidized into diatoxanthin. Diatoms accumulate pigments from this cycle in high light, and exhibit faster and more pronounced NPQ.

Activity of apremilast in a patient with severe pemphigus vulgaris: case report.

Introduction: Although the treatment for pemphigus vulgaris (PV) has been revolutionized by the use of rituximab combined with corticosteroids, new effective therapies with a better safety profile are needed.

Observation: A 67-year-old woman was diagnosed with severe mucosal PV, which was initially misdiagnosed as atypical Behçet's disease. Following an unsuccessful colchicine treatment, significant improvement was observed upon the introduction of apremilast: reduced pain, fewer lesions, and a stabilized weight.

Definition of Virological Endpoints Improving the Design of HIV Cure Strategies Using Analytical Antiretroviral Treatment Interruption.

Background: Analytical treatment interruption (ATI) is the gold standard in HIV research for assessing the capability of new therapeutic strategies to control viremia without antiretroviral treatment (ART). The viral setpoint is commonly used as endpoint to evaluate their efficacy. However, in line with recommendations from a consensus meeting, to minimize the risk of increased viremia without ART, trials often implement short ATI phases and stringent virological ART restart criteria.

Background: Choristoma is a well-defined benign lesion formed by histologically normal tissue in an unusual location. Diagnosis is confirmed after surgical removal of the mass. To our knowledge, to date there has been only one case of thyroid choristoma described in the literature.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common inflammatory diseases, and has a higher prevalence among females in adulthood. The aim of this observational, cross-sectional, survey-based study was to evaluate the impact of AD on the daily lives of adult women patients. A scientific committee composed exclusively of women constructed a specific questionnaire in partnership with the French Eczema Association.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in surface water of rivers in Sergipe State, Brazil: A comprehensive analysis of sources, spatial and temporal variation, and ecotoxicological risk.

This study conducted in Sergipe State, Brazil, aimed to investigate the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the surface water of five rivers, determining their sources, spatial and temporal variations, and ecotoxicological risks. Correlation and principal component analyses were utilized to identify the relationship between PAH concentrations and water sample properties. Results indicated higher PAH concentrations during the rainy season, attributed to increased run-off and sediment resuspension.

Theory-Guided Care of Intimate Partner Violence Trauma Patients in the Acute Care Setting Using the Vulnerable Populations Conceptual Model.

Vulnerable populations are social groups at increased risk for poor health outcomes. According to the vulnerable populations conceptual model (VPCM) nursing theory, vulnerable groups such as survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) are at risk for disease, morbidity, and mortality due to limited resources. The purpose of this article is to propose the VPCM as an organizing theoretical framework in the acute care setting of trauma patients suffering from IPV by outlining the factors affecting the care of this vulnerable population.

Background: Our study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and predictive factors of withholding life support for children suffering from severe neurological impairment before admission to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Method: Children under 18 years of age with severe neurological impairment, who were hospitalized between January 2006 and December 2016, were included in this retrospective study. They were allocated to a withholding group or a control group, depending on whether life support was withheld or not, before admission to the PICU.
