Article Synopsis
  • Surgeons face high stress during urological procedures, impacting their health and well-being, and heart rate variability (HRV) serves as a valid stress indicator.
  • This study analyzed HRV during surgical interventions, comparing senior and junior surgeons' stress responses at key surgery moments: incision, closure, and adverse events.
  • Results showed senior surgeons had greater stress indicators, such as higher heart rate decreases and lower HRV, compared to juniors, suggesting they experience more physiological changes during surgery.

Introduction: High-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (HG-NMIBC) exposes to a high risk of recurrence and progression. Standard of care includes repeated trans-urethral resection of bladder tumor (reTURBT) and bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy. Not following Standard of care (SOC) may be associated with a worse prognosis.

Purpose: We compared surgical complications after laser prostatic photovaporization in anticoagulated versus non-anticoagulated patients.

Methods: A propensity score was calculated and patients were matched, to compare postoperative complications using the Clavien-Dindo classification between the anticoagulated and non-anticoagulated groups. We also identified factors associated with complications, and perform an analysis of secondary endpoint with categories of urological complications.

Background: Male urinary incontinence is attributed to SUI consecutive to benign prostate hypertrophy surgery, trauma, neurological diseases, or injury. Medical devices are developed to treat male urinary incontinence among them proACT® balloons. This technique was chosen in our center to achieve continence.

Prevalence of kidney stones is increasing worldwide, flexible ureterorenoscopy (f-URS) is the most common surgical treatment. Postoperative urinary tract infection (PUTI) is the primary complication. Some risk factors are classically associated with PUTI, especially preoperative positive urinalysis (POPU).

Context: The impact of recipient obesity on kidney transplantation (KT) outcomes remains unclear.

Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to appraise all available evidence on the outcomes of KT in obese patients (body mass index [BMI] ≥30 kg/m) versus nonobese patients (BMI <30 kg/m).

Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how inflammation, represented by neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and neutrophil count (PNN), impacts survival outcomes in patients with localized bladder cancer undergoing chemoradiation.
  • - Analyzed data from 194 patients showed that those with high NLR (above 2.6) and elevated PNN (above 4000/mm) experienced significantly lower overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS).
  • - While high PNN was a strong indicator of poor OS and PFS outcomes, NLR did not prove to be an independent prognostic factor in this analysis.

Until recently, the first-line treatments used in metastatic renal cell carcinoma were based on first-generation anti-VEGFR (vascular endothelial growth factor receptor) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as monotherapy. Trials combining immunotherapy (IO) (anti-CTLA4 + anti-PD-1) or immunotherapy with TKIs showed striking results in the first-line setting with improvement in overall response rates, progression-free survival and overall survival versus sunitinib. This allowed the combinations to gain registration in the US and Europe in the first-line advanced or metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma setting.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess four different predictive scores for stone-free rates (SFR) following flexible ureterorenoscopy (f-URS) using holmium-YAG laser to treat kidney stones.
  • A retrospective analysis of 800 f-URS procedures was conducted, with various scores (S.T.O.N.E, RUSS, S-ReSC, and Ito's score) calculated by a single surgeon.
  • The results showed an overall SFR of 74.1%, with Ito's score being the most sensitive, although all score performances were lower than previously reported in earlier studies.

Background Metastatic Squamous cell Penile Carcinoma (mSCPC) is an orphan disease with a virally induced oncogenesis. PD-L1 expression rate is around 60% with a strong correlation between PD-L1 in the primary tumour and metastases. The first line systemic treatment relies on platinum-based chemotherapies with a median progression free survival and overall survival around 7.

Penile cancers are rare, the vast majority is represented by squamous cell carcinoma, with HPV virus being found in 30 to 40% of cases. At a locally advanced or metastatic stage, first-line treatment relies on platinum and taxane based polychemotherapy. The prognosis for advanced or metastatic penile cancer remains poor, with overall survival ranging from 13.

Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze the effects of obesity on postoperative complications and patient and graft survival after kidney transplantation.

Methods: We retrospectively included 506 patients who received a kidney transplant in our center during eleven years. Obesity was defined by a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m based on World Health Organization criteria.

Objective: To compare the oncological outcomes of testicle-sparing surgery (TSS) and radical orchiectomy (RO) in patients with Leydig cell tumor (LCT) of the testis.

Patients And Methods: A multicenter retrospective clinical study was conducted in 12 centers in France. All the patients with histologically proven LCT were included and analyzed according to treatment (organ-sparing surgery or radical orchiectomy).
