: Cytokines related to the Th17 response have been associated with peri-implant diseases; however, the effect of peri-implant therapy on their modulation remains underexplored. To evaluate the effect of peri-implant therapy on the expression of cytokines related to the Th17 response in the peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) (GM-CSF, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12 (p70), IL-17A, IL-21, IL-23, and TNF-α) of partially edentulous patients with peri-implant disease (PID). : Thirty-seven systemically healthy individuals presenting with peri-implant mucositis (PIM) (n = 20) or peri-implantitis (PI) (n = 17) were treated and evaluated at baseline (T0) and three months after therapy (T1).

Introduction: Pregnancy comprises a period of 41 weeks, in which the female body undergoes several physiological, hormonal and anatomical changes that can generate changes in skin temperature.
Objective: To describe the thermal profile of pregnant women during the first, second and third trimester of pregnancy.
Method: This is a cross-sectional observational study.
Guanabara Bay, located at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a highly urbanized and polluted estuary that houses different port areas, shipyards, and marinas of intense maritime traffic. This infrastructure is widely associated with the introduction and spread of non-native sessile species. A rapid assessment of non-native benthic sessile species conducted in the bay in late 2022 across 19 sites identified a total of 83 taxa, both native and non-native, classified into the following main groups: one Cyanophyta, 13 Macroalgae, 14 Porifera, 11 Cnidaria, six Bryozoa, five Annelida, 10 Mollusca, six Crustacea, 10 Echinodermata, and seven Ascidiacea.

Brazil's COVID-19 response has faced challenges due to the continuous emergence of variants of concern (VOCs), emphasizing the need for ongoing genomic surveillance and retrospective analyses of past epidemic waves to reassess and fine tune containment protocols. Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil's southernmost state, has international borders and trades with Argentina and Uruguay, along with significant domestic connections within Brazil. The identification of source and sink transmission chains at national and international scales can identify main hubs and pathways to target future interventions.

Purpose Of The Review: The role of leptin in regulating cardiac function is still controversial with conflicting results in clinical and preclinical studies. However, most previous studies have not considered leptin's powerful cardiac effects that are mediated via activation of central nervous system (CNS) leptin receptors (LepRs) which, in turn, elicit major improvements in cardiac metabolism. In this review, we focus mainly on the role of leptin in regulating cardiac function via its CNS LepRs and downstream signaling pathways, such as the brain melanocortin system.

Background: Sesn2 (Sestrin2) is a stress-induced protein that provides protective effects during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury, while endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress may be a pivotal mediator of I/R injury. The goal of this study was to determine whether Sesn2-mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) signaling regulates ER stress during myocardial I/R.
Methods And Results: In vivo cardiac I/R was induced by ligation and subsequent release of the left anterior descending coronary artery in wild-type (WT) and cardiac-specific Sesn2 knockout (Sesn2) mice.

Background: The Golden Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus), Ferrets (Mustela putorius furo), and macaques have been described as useful laboratory animals naturally susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.
Objectives: To study the mechanism of lung injury, we describe the histopathological features of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Golden Syrian hamsters inoculated intranasally with the A.2 Brazilian strain.
Immunoglobulins Y (IgY) purified from egg yolks of hens represents an attractive, cost-effective alternative for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic platforms. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of rotavirus-specific IgY in a cynomolgus monkey () model. Animals were experimentally infected with human rotavirus Group A (RVA), the most common cause of severe acute diarrhoea among young children worldwide.

Dietary sodium restriction increases plasma triglycerides (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) concentrations as well as causing insulin resistance and stimulation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and the sympathetic nervous system. Stimulation of the angiotensin II type-1 receptor (AT1) is associated with insulin resistance, inflammation, and the inhibition of adipogenesis. The current study investigated whether aerobic exercise training (AET) mitigates or inhibits the adverse effects of dietary sodium restriction on adiposity, inflammation, and insulin sensitivity in periepididymal adipose tissue.

Among these, real-time posture monitoring and assessment stands out as a crucial application given the rising prevalence of conditions like forward head posture (FHP). This paper proposes a wearable device that combines the acquisition of electromyographic signals from the cervical region with inertial data from inertial measurement units (IMUs) to assess the occurrence of FHP.

However, 2DUS echocardiography does not capture regional differences in cardiac contractility since it relies on planar images to estimate left ventricular (LV) geometry and global function. Thus, the current study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of a newly developed 4-dimensional ultrasound (4DUS) method in detecting cardiac functional differences between two models of MI, permanent ligation (PL), and ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rats.

Besides a growing number of studies investigating the mosquito virome, the majority are focused on few urban species, and relatively little is known about the virome of sylvatic mosquitoes, particularly in high biodiverse biomes such as the Brazilian biomes. Here, we characterized the RNA virome of 10 sylvatic mosquito species from Atlantic forest remains at a sylvatic-urban interface in Northeast Brazil employing a metatranscriptomic approach.

However, the role of glutamine metabolism in regulating cardiac remodeling following myocardial infarction (MI) is unknown. In this study, we show in adult male mice that glutamine metabolism is altered both in the remote (contractile) area and in infiltrating macrophages in the infarct area after permanent left anterior descending artery occlusion.

Pain, a complex and debilitating condition affecting millions globally, is a significant concern, especially in the context of post-operative recovery. This comprehensive review explores the complexity of pain and its global impact, emphasizing the modulation of voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSC or NaV channels) as a promising avenue for pain management with the aim of reducing reliance on opioids. The article delves into the role of specific NaV isoforms, particularly NaV 1.

Methods: Sixty multislice computed tomography (MCT) from 20 patients undergoing SARME were analyzed in 3 periods of time (1 MCT per patient on each occasion): (1) 1 week before surgery, (2) postsurgery immediately after completing the expander activation, and (3) 10 months after the expander activation. On all occasions, the bone density was measured in Hounsfield units on MCT scans in axial and coronal sections, in the anterior (A1), middle (A2), and posterior (A3) regions of the midpalatal suture.

SARS-CoV-2 virus emerged as a new threat to humans and spread around the world, leaving a large death toll. As of January 2023, Brazil is among the countries with the highest number of registered deaths. Nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions have been heterogeneously implemented in the country, which, associated with large socioeconomic differences between the country regions, has led to distinct virus spread dynamics.
