Article Synopsis
  • Infectious diarrhoea is a common issue following allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (alloHSCT), with a study showing a 1-year incidence of 23% among 374 patients.
  • The main causes of diarrhoea were identified as Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI, 17%), bacterial infections (4%), and viral infections (3%), with CDI being the most prevalent.
  • There is a strong link between non-viral infectious diarrhoea and the risk of developing severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), suggesting the need for further research on infection control measures to potentially reduce GVHD rates.
