High resolution optical and acoustic remote sensing datasets of the Puck Lagoon.

The very shallow marine basin of Puck Lagoon in the southern Baltic Sea, on the Northern coast of Poland, hosts valuable benthic habitats and cultural heritage sites. These include, among others, protected Zostera marina meadows, one of the Baltic's major medieval harbours, a ship graveyard, and likely other submerged features that are yet to be discovered. Prior to this project, no comprehensive high-resolution remote sensing data were available for this area.

6D Object Localization in Car-Assembly Industrial Environment.

In this work, a visual object detection and localization workflow integrated into a robotic platform is presented for the 6D pose estimation of objects with challenging characteristics in terms of weak texture, surface properties and symmetries. The workflow is used as part of a module for object pose estimation deployed to a mobile robotic platform that exploits the Robot Operating System (ROS) as middleware. The objects of interest aim to support robot grasping in the context of human-robot collaboration during car door assembly in industrial manufacturing environments.

Ureteral carcinoma metastasizing to the testicle: Can misdiagnosis of orchiepididymitis be avoided?

Testicular metastases from ureteral carcinoma are rare and they are generally mimic orchiepididymitis. For this reason, these are associated to misleading diagnoses and cancer treatment delay. We believe that both timing and knowledge of genital blood and lymph reverse flow routes may represent two important parameters for avoiding misleading diagnoses and speed proper anticancer treatment.

As the incidence of malignancies in young adults is increasing, fertility preservation in cancer survivors arises as a major concern. Especially among female cancer patients, pregnancy rates are estimated to be 40% lower compared to women of the same age. Nowadays oncologists are to be preoccupied not only with their patients' successful treatment, but also with the maintenance of the potential of the latter to conceive and obtain children.

Old Player-New Tricks: Non Angiogenic Effects of the VEGF/VEGFR Pathway in Cancer.

Angiogenesis has long been considered to facilitate and sustain cancer growth, making the introduction of anti-angiogenic agents that disrupt the vascular endothelial growth factor/receptor (VEGF/VEGFR) pathway an important milestone at the beginning of the 21st century. Originally research on VEGF signaling focused on its survival and mitogenic effects towards endothelial cells, with moderate so far success of anti-angiogenic therapy. However, VEGF can have multiple effects on additional cell types including immune and tumor cells, by directly influencing and promoting tumor cell survival, proliferation and invasion and contributing to an immunosuppressive microenvironment.

Interior design in cancer care: simple structural solutions in storey houses improve patients' quality of life, mood and performance.

Storey duplex houses are today one of the fastest growing housing market. The key of success is that this kind of house architecture presents esthetic and practical advantages in the average family daily life, but its narrow indoor staircase connecting the ground floor (floor of family activities) to the "bedroom floor" may constitute a potential detriment for the care and quality of life of patients with advanced cancer. Due to cancer cachexia, cancer pain and asthenia, the patients' incapacity to use narrow stairs will become soon an impassable barrier.

Acquired Hemophilia in an Elderly Patient with Carcinoma of the Ampulla of Vater.

Acquired hemophilia is a rare autoimmune bleeding disorder related to the production of autoantibodies that inhibit clotting factor VIII or IX. The underlying cause can be autoimmune disease, malignancy, pregnancy, or medications, but it is most commonly idiopathic. Here we present the case of an 81-year-old patient with locoregionally relapsed periampullary carcinoma who presented with soft tissue hematoma and an abnormally elevated activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) in the presence of a normal prothrombin time.

Global coverage and consistency of guideline recommendations for cancer cachexia on the Web in 2011 and 2018.

Introduction: Cancer cachexia is a common associate of cancer and has a negative impact on both patients' quality of life and overall survival. Nonetheless its management remains suboptimal in clinical practice. Provision of medical recommendations in websites is of extreme importance for medical decision making and translating evidence into clinical practice.

Identification of catheter misplacement in early port CVC dysfunction.

The use of port central venous catheters (CVCs) for chemotherapeutical use has seen exponential growth over the last decades. However, port CVC misplacement may lead to catheter malfunction (such as partial or total catheter blockade), which might be complicated by thrombosis and catheter superinfections, and these in turn may lead to pulmonary embolism and bloodstream infections. The overall occurrence of port CVC misplacement is up to 6%; nonetheless, port CVC misplacement may occur in up to 67% of patients with early CVC dysfunction (occurring within three months of catheter insertion).

Postoperative chemotherapy with single-agent after resection of colorectal cancer liver metastases: a meta-analysis of randomised trials.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) are mesenchymal neoplasms that usually carry an activating mutation in or platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha () genes with predictive and prognostic significance. We investigated the extended mutational status of GIST in a patient population of north-western Greece in order to look at geopraphic/genotypic distinctive traits.

Patient And Methods: Clinicopathological and molecular data of 38 patients diagnosed from 1996 to 2016 with GIST in the region of Epirus in Greece were retrospectively assessed.

Ovarian sex-cord stromal tumours and small cell tumours: Pathological, genetic and management aspects.

Non-epithelial ovarian cancers (NEOC) constitute a group of uncommon malignancies and their treatment is still a challenging task. Collectively, these tumours account for about 10% of all ovarian cancers and occur in all age groups from childhood to old-age. They include malignancies of germ cell origin, sex cord-stromal cell origin, and a variety of extremely rare ovarian cancers, such as small-cell carcinomas and sarcomas.

Current and future biomarkers in colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer (CRC), one of the leading causes of death among cancer patients, is a heterogeneous disease and is characterized by diversions in multiple molecular pathways throughout its evolutionary process. To date, specific mutations in RAS and RAF genes are tested in everyday clinical practice along with mismatch repair gene deficiency, serving either as prognostic or predictive biomarkers, providing information for patient risk stratification and the choice of appropriate therapy. However, ongoing studies are focusing on the potential role of recently discovered genetic and epigenetic alterations in the management of CRC patients and their potential prognostic or predictive value.

Nivolumab-induced hypothyroidism and selective pituitary insufficiency in a patient with lung adenocarcinoma: a case report and review of the literature.

Immune checkpoint blockade including programmed cell death 1 pathway inhibition with agents such as nivolumab is gaining ground in a wide array of malignancies, so far demonstrating significantly improved survival rates even in metastatic, often multiply pretreated settings. Although targeted in nature and generally well-tolerated compared with conventional anticancer treatments, these agents are often linked to a newly emerged group of adverse reactions, referred to as immune-related adverse events, which can also affect endocrine organs. This is a case report of a patient who received nivolumab for the treatment of recurrent metastatic non-small cell lung cancer and developed primary hypothyroidism and secondary adrenal insufficiency caused by selective pituitary dysfunction (with preservation of all other endocrine functions).
