Prognostic factors of quality of life after transoral laser microsurgery for laryngeal cancer.

We aimed to evaluate factors influencing quality of life (QOL) after transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) of laryngeal cancer. Four hundred and one consecutive disease-free patients were evaluated 1 year after treatment using the University of Washington-QOL v4, the SF-12 (short form of SF-36), and a questionnaire about self-rated health status. The importance of age, gender, tumor location, tumor size, tumor stage, neck dissection and adjuvant treatment were evaluated.

[Laparoscopic treatment of common bile duct lithiasis associated with gallbladder lithiasis].

Introduction: Laparoscopic bile duct exploration has become one of the main options for the treatment of choledocholithiasis associated with cholelithiasis. Our objective is to describe the results of a consecutive series of patients.

Patients And Method: We retrospectively analyzed 101 (66 female/16 male) patients who underwent laparoscopic bile duct exploration.

Biochemical results of reoperations for medullary thyroid carcinoma.

Background: The calcitonin is a sensitive marker for the presence of medullary thyroid carcinoma, therefore, invaluable in the follow-up of patients who have been treated. Biological cure of the medullary thyroid cancer refers to a basal plasma calcitonin of less than 10 ng/l without elevation after stimulation tests.

Study Design: Biochemical results of reoperations for medullary thyroid carcinoma were reviewed from a series of 35 patients who underwent 47 reinterventions.
