Article Synopsis
  • Recent research indicates that detecting SARS-CoV-2 on hospital floors is linked to COVID-19 outbreaks, similar to findings in long-term care facilities.
  • A study collected floor swabs from healthcare worker areas in two Ontario hospitals over 39 weeks, revealing a 71% positivity rate for SARS-CoV-2, with 90% in one hospital and 60% in another, alongside multiple outbreaks.
  • The presence of viral copies on floors significantly predicted the likelihood of outbreaks, suggesting that monitoring floor contamination can enhance infection control and outbreak management in healthcare settings.

Here, we used RNA-seq reads to assemble the complete mitochondrial genomes of the spring field cricket, , and the variable field cricket, The mitochondrial genomes of (15,686 bp, MW322713) and (15,607 bp, MW315773) each contain the expected 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a large control (D-loop) region. The arrangements of these features were similar for both species and consistent with other closely related Orthoptera. A phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial genome sequences revealed that and cluster with the other species and all reside in a clade with the Gryllidae.
