Patients with genetically-based hyperlipidemias exhibit a wide phenotypic variability. Investigation of clinical and biochemical features is important for identifying genetically-based hyperlipidemias, determining disease prognosis, and initiating timely treatment. We analyzed genetic data from 3374 samples and compared clinical data, lipid levels (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, and lipoprotein (a)), frequency, age at onset of coronary heart disease (CHD), and the severity of carotid and femoral atherosclerosis (plaque number, maximum stenosis, total stenosis, maximum plaque height, and plaque score) among patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), familial dysbetalipoproteinemia (FD), polygenic hypercholesterolemia (HCL), severe HCL, and those without lipid disorders (n = 324).

The study presents the results of the survey of beached litter on the two opposite shores of the Fields Peninsula (King George Island) conducted during the austral summer seasons of 2022 and 2023, as part of the 67th and 68th Russian Antarctic expeditions. Beaches situated on the coast of the Drake Passage were much more polluted compared to the beaches on the Maxwell Bay side. Plastic accounted for 86 % of all found items on the shores of the Drake Passage, with the majority of items related to fisheries or shipping.

We reported a case of sitosterolemia, which is a rare genetic disease, characterized by increased plant sterol absorption and great heterogeneity of clinical manifestations. The results of molecular genetic testing may affect recommended treatment or therapeutic decisions and risk assessment, may help with identification of family members at risk. We performed a targeted sequencing of 242 clinically important genes mostly associated with cardiovascular diseases in a representative population sample of 1,658 individuals from the Ivanovo region northeast of Moscow. Approximately 11% of 11,876 detected variants were not found in the Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Database (dbSNP) or reported earlier in the Russian population. Most novel variants were singletons and doubletons in our sample, and virtually no novel alleles presumably specific for the Russian population were able to reach the frequencies above 0.

The study presents the results of the field expedition in the Russian Arctic held by a group of NGO members, scientists and volunteers in summer-autumn 2020 in the Arkhangelsk Region (Russia). The survey showed microplastics presence in 7 out of 13 remote and sparsely inhabited locations in lakes, rivers and coastal areas of the White Sea basin, with microplastic particle average concentration 1.14 part/m, that is in agreement with other recent regional studies.
