JAK inhibitors for inflammatory bowel disease: recent advances.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) commonly requires immunosuppressive treatments to induce and maintain durable remission. Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) are a novel group of orally administered, small molecule drugs that work by attenuating multiple cytokine signalling pathways to mediate dysregulated immune responses involved in the pathogenesis of IBD. Tofacitinib, filgotinib and upadacitinib have demonstrated efficacy against placebo and are licensed for the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis; upadacitinib is the only JAKi also currently approved for the treatment of Crohn's disease.

Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp of the Gastrointestinal Tract: A Systematic Review for a Benign Tumor.

Background/aim: Inflammatory fibroid polyp (IFP) is a rare, usually solitary and intraluminal polypoid benign tumor that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, although in the majority of cases it affects the stomach. This lesion is characterized by proliferation of highly vascular fibrous tissue and infiltration by a variable number of different inflammatory cells. Its etiology is unknown.

Gastrointestinal involvement in COVID-19 patients: a retrospective study from a Greek COVID-19 referral hospital.

Background: Much attention has been paid to the study and reporting of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in COVID-19 patients. Moreover, an increasing number of COVID-19 patients have been noted to experience hepatic and pancreatic injury. In this study, we retrospectively investigated symptoms and laboratory findings related to the GI system in a single center in Athens, Greece, and assessed the role of these parameters in relation to survival and disease severity.
