Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the physicochemical properties of vascular grafts (VGs) made from a mixture of Tecoflex, gelatin, and bivalirudin using electrospinning, comparing them to traditional e-PTFE grafts.
  • After 24 weeks of implantation in Wistar rats, 94.5% of the Tec-GL-BV grafts remained occlusion-free, significantly outperforming the 66.6% occlusion-free rate of e-PTFE grafts.
  • Additionally, the Tec-GL-BV grafts showed more neovascularization and less neointima thickness and calcification, indicating their potential advantages in clinical applications.

Background: We aimed to compare the outcomes of mitral valve repair with flexible band (FB) versus complete semirigid ring (SR) in degenerative mitral valve disease patients.

Methods: From September 2011 to 2014, 171 patients were randomized and underwent successful mitral valve repair using a SR (n = 85) or FB (n = 86). There were no significant between-group differences at baseline.

Remote ischaemic preconditioning (RIPC) gained attention as a possibility to reduce myocardial injury after a subsequent sustained episode of myocardial ischaemia. This prospective randomized study was carried out to assess whether RIPC reduces myocardial injury in coronary artery bypass grafting patients. Eighty patients were assigned to remote preconditioning or control treatment.
