The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) disseminates information on a broad range of health topics through diverse publications. These publications must rely on clear and transparent presentation standards that can be broadly and efficiently applied. Standards are particularly important for large, cross-cutting reports where estimates cannot be individually evaluated and indicators of precision cannot be included alongside the estimates.

Characteristics of Visits to Primary Care Physicians by Adults Diagnosed With Hypertension.

Objective-This report describes the demographic, state, and regional differences in hypertension control and pharmaceutical treatment among visits to primary care physicians made by hypertensive adults during 2013-2014. Methods-Data are from the 2013-2014 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS), a nationally representative survey of visits to nonfederal, office-based physicians. The sample design for the 2013-2014 NAMCS included oversampling in selected states.

Underreporting of driver alcohol involvement in United States police and hospital records: capture-recapture estimates.

This paper analyzes what portion of US nonfatal crashes are alcohol-involved and how well police and hospitals detect involvement. A capture recapture model estimated alcohol involvement from levels detected by police and hospitals and the extent of detection overlap. We analyzed 550,933 Crash Outcome Data Evaluation System driver records from 2006-2008 police crash report censuses probabilistically linked to hospital inpatient and emergency department (ED) discharge censuses for CT, KY (admissions only), MD, NE, NY, SC, and UT.
