Public health addresses child maltreatment and other adverse childhood experiences by focusing primarily on preventing them from happening in the first place; understanding and addressing their individual, relational, community, and societal causes using the best available scientific evidence; and engaging in large-scale, multi-sector partnerships. Such large scale efforts require bringing together a compelling narrative, relationships, and strategy. This article describes how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention used a public health approach to develop a narrative, relationships, and strategy to prevent child maltreatment.

Dissection and dissection-associated required experiences improve student performance in gross anatomy: Differences among quartiles.

To promote student learning, educational strategies should provide multiple levels of engagement with the subject matter. This study investigated examination data from five first year medical gross anatomy class cohorts (692 students) to determine if enhanced student performance was correlated with learning through dissection in a course that used a rotating dissection schedule coupled with peer teaching and other associated experiences. Cognitive responses to stress, depression, and anxiety and their relationship to ADHD symptoms in first year psychology students.

Objective: To explore the relationship between levels of reported depression, anxiety, and stress with scores on the Conners's Adult ADHD Rating Scale (CAARS).

Method: Information was obtained from 84 1st-year psychology students using the CAARS, the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS), and the Life Experiences Survey (LES).

Purpose: Parental decision making in children with vesicoureteral reflux has potentially become more complex with the evolution of ethnic diversity in the United States, the Internet, the publication of contradictory clinical data and the emergence of minimally invasive surgery. We performed a cross-sectional study of parental management for pediatric vesicoureteral reflux.

Expression of the zebrafish Staufen gene in the embryo and adult.

Staufen, a double stranded RNA binding protein, has been shown to be involved in creating and maintaining cellular asymmetry in the Drosophila oocyte, neuroblast, and mammalian neuron. Staufen binds to the 3' UTR of specific mRNAs and acts in their localization and anchoring to various subcellular domains. Role of VEGF family members and receptors in coronary vessel formation.

The specific roles of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family members and their receptors (VEGFRs) in coronary vessel formation were studied.
