Optomechanical systems provide a pathway for the bidirectional optical-to-microwave interconversion in (quantum) networks. These systems can be implemented using hybrid platforms, which efficiently couple optical photons and microwaves via intermediate agents, e.g.

We demonstrate a proof-of-concept refractive index sensor based on heavily doped ZnO:Ga nanostructured in a grating configuration, which supports free space excitation of propagating surface plasmons. The bulk sensitivity of the sensor of 4.9 × 10(3) nm per refractive index unit, achieved in the mid-infrared spectral range with the first grating prototype, surpasses that of the noble metal counterparts by three to four times.

The results of a systematic study of spectral and kinetic patterns of ozone-adsorption-induced luminescence (AL) in nanostructured Si and, for the first time, in colloidal CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) are reported and compared with photoluminescence (PL) of the same structures. The common excitonic nature of light emission under ozone chemisorption and photoexcitation is confirmed by excellent coincidence of AL and PL emission bands. This coincidence is maintained during correlated quenching of AL and PL emission caused by nonradiative defects generated under ozone adsorption.
