We synthesized and characterized a novel, task-specific ionic liquid for metal extraction with considerably reduced leaching behavior compared to similar, phosphonium-based ionic liquids. The synthesis involves the design of the novel compound [TOPP][PAM] featuring both a highly hydrophobic cation and a functional anion. The characterization of the novel ionic liquid confirmed the formation of the desired structure and sufficient purity.

Article Synopsis
  • Trithiolato-bridged dinuclear ruthenium(II) complexes are recognized for their high effectiveness against cancer, but their poor water solubility limits their use in medical applications.!* -
  • To overcome this issue, researchers developed bisphosphonate-functionalized ligands that enhance the water solubility and enable selective targeting to bone structures in cancer treatments.!* -
  • Testing showed that while these modifications improve solubility and targeting, they also reduce the compounds' ability to fight cancer in laboratory settings, likely due to changes in how the drugs are absorbed by cells.!*
