Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates isolated retroperitoneal recurrence (IRR) in renal cancer patients post-surgery, focusing on outcomes and survival prognostics after treatment.
  • The research included 60 renal cancer patients who had surgery for suspected IRR, finding that surgical complications were rare, and survival rates showed a 5-year cancer-specific survival of 66%.
  • Metastasis-directed therapy (MDT) was associated with longer time to systemic treatment and improved survival in patients who experienced clinical progression after IRR surgery, with tumor grade and time since prior nephrectomy being strong prognostic factors.

Background: To provide an overview of the importance of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the pathogenesis of renal cell carcinoma and their utility as bio-markers for dia-gnosis, prognosis and prediction of treatment response.

Materials And Methods: A literature search in the Pubmed and Web of Science databases using the keywords variations of “long non-coding RNA” (“lncRNA”, “long noncoding RNA”, “long non-coding RNA”) and “renal cell carcinoma” (“renal cancer”, “renal cell carcinoma”, “kidney cancer”) was performed. The results related to the pathogenesis, dia-gnosis, prognosis and use as therapeutic targets were separated.
