Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening situation. While anticoagulation should be initiated without any delay in all patients with an intermediate or high clinical probability of PE, individual acute phase treatment in patients with intermediate or intermediate-high-risk PE still can be optimized.
Case Summary: An 82-year-old female patient was referred to our emergency department after experiencing syncope and acute onset of shortness of breath.
Background: Fascial dehiscence following exploratory laparotomy is associated with significant morbidity and increased mortality. Previously published risk prediction models for fascial dehiscence are dated and limit a surgeon's ability to perform reliable risk assessment intraoperatively. We sought to determine if machine learning can predict fascial dehiscence after exploratory laparotomy.

This pathogen can survive hostile environments through the signaling activity of two-component systems, which couple environmental sensing with transcriptional activation to initiate a coordinated response to stress. In this work, we describe the identification of a two-component system, EdsRS, which mediates the response to the antimicrobial compound targocil.
