Pancreas-preserving duodenal resections with bile and pancreatic duct replantation for duodenal dystrophy. Two case reports.

Context: Duodenal dystrophy is a rare disease, characterized by the chronic inflammation of the aberrant pancreatic tissue in the duodenal wall.

Case Reports: Two middle-aged men were admitted with upper abdominal pain of several months duration, periodic nausea and vomiting after meals, intermittent jaundice and weight loss. A diagnosis of cystic dystrophy of the vertical part of the duodenum without chronic inflammation of the orthotopic pancreas was established in both cases by multi-detector computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and endosonography.

Evaluation of the electrocardiographic criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy with use of three-dimensional echocardiography.

Background: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a common condition that carries an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Use of ECG in detection of LVH is limited because of the reported low sensitivity. Conventional echocardiographic techniques used as the standard for estimating left ventricular (LV) mass have limitations related to the position of the image plane and shape of the ventricle.

Hemodynamic support with a percutaneous left ventricular assist device during stenting of an unprotected left main coronary artery.

Coronary artery bypass grafting prolongs survival in patients with left main coronary artery stenosis. However, this benefit is denied to patients who refuse the procedure or who are poor surgical candidates due to comorbid conditions. We describe a novel technique for the percutaneous revascularization of stenosis in an unprotected left main coronary artery in high-risk patients.
