The present work is on a comprehensive surface atomic structure investigation of β-GaO (100). The β-GaO single crystal was studied by a structural model system in the simulations and characterization X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD) allowed for probing the outermost layers' properties. XPD characterization allows for the collection of valuable element-specific short-range information from the β-GaO surface, and the results were compared to a systematic and precise multiple scattering simulation approach.

The intermetallic AlCo is defined as a structurally complex material and is considered a low-order quasicrystalline approximant. A single crystal of AlCo(001) was obtained by the Czochralski method. The sample was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), and X-ray photoelectron diffraction (PED).

OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to identify the natural history and clinical predictors of postoperative recurrence of skull base and non-skull base meningiomas. METHODS The authors performed a retrospective hospital-based study of all patients with meningioma referred to their institution from September 1993 to January 2014. The cohort constituted both patients with a first-time presentation and those with evidence of recurrence.

Pd nanoparticles (NPs) were successfully obtained by the reduction of PdCl2 with L-ascorbic acid, whose morphology was revealed by HRTEM to be a worm-like system, formed by linked crystallite clusters with an average short-axis diameter of 5.42 nm. In situ UV-vis absorption measurements were used to monitor their formation, while XPS and XRD characterization confirmed the NPs' metallic state.
