Background: Myocardial insulin resistance (IR) could be a predictive factor of cardiovascular events. This study aimed to introduce a new method using I-6-deoxy-6-iodo-D-glucose (6DIG), a pure tracer of glucose transport, for the assessment of IR using cardiac dynamic nuclear imaging.

Methods: The protocol evaluated first in rat-models consisted in two 6DIG injections and one of insulin associated with planar imaging and blood sampling.

Purpose: Risk stratification of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) remains suboptimal. We hypothesized that myocardial perfusion entropy (MPE) quantified from SPECT myocardial perfusion images may provide incremental prognostic value in T2D patients independently from myocardial ischemia.

Methods: T2D patients with very high and high cardiovascular risk were prospectively included (n = 166, 65 ± 12 years).

Purpose: Insulin resistance is a key feature of the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, in which noninvasive assessment is not currently allowed by any methodology. We previously validated an iodinated tracer of glucose transport (6DIG) and a new methodology for the in vivo quantification of cardiac insulin resistance in rodents. The aim of this study was to investigate the safety, biodistribution, and radiation dosimetry of this method using I-6DIG in 5 healthy and 6 diabetic volunteers.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of stress thallium-201/rest technetium-99m-sestamibi sequential dual-isotope high-speed myocardial perfusion imaging (DI-HS-MPI) against invasively determined fractional flow reserve (FFR).

Methods: Fifty-four consecutive patients prospectively underwent DI-HS-MPI before invasive coronary angiography. Perfusion was scored visually by summed stress score on a patient and coronary territory basis.

Background: Recent advances in nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) have made it possible to develop a dual-isotope protocol for high-speed acquisition with image quality and radiation delivery comparable to that obtained with conventional single isotope protocols. So far, no study has compared dual-isotope high-speed MPI to invasive coronary angiography (ICA) in a large cohort using a Cadmium-zinc-telluride SPECT system.

Methods: Over a 1-year period (May 2011 to April 2012), 1366 patients underwent dual-isotope high-speed MPI.

Objectives: Radioiodine is currently used routinely in the treatment of hyperthyroidism including Graves' disease (GD), toxic multinodular goitre (TMNG) and toxic solitary nodule (TSN) but no consensus exists on the most appropriate way to prescribe iodine--fixed dose or calculated doses based on the gland size or turnover of (131)I. We carried out the first nationwide French survey assessing the current practices in radioiodine treatment of hyperthyroidism.

Material And Methods: A questionnaire was sent to French nuclear medicine hospital units and cancer treatment centres (n=69) about their practices in 2012.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how consistently different doctors interpret [(18)F]choline PET/CT scans in patients with prostate cancer that recurred after treatment.
  • It involved 60 patients and compared the interpretations of four nuclear medicine physicians who used the same methods, without knowing the patients' clinical backgrounds, two months apart.
  • The results showed moderate to excellent consistency among observers for different areas assessed, with particularly high agreement for lymphatic assessments and good reproducibility for bone metastasis evaluations.

After a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a 35-year-old patient developed paroxystic hypertension accompanied by typical symptoms. These symptoms occurred exclusively after urination. A urinary bladder paraganglioma was discovered using iodine-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine (I-123 MIBG) scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after the detection of an abnormally elevated plasma metanephrine measurement.

Purpose: Identification of the sentinel lymph node (SLN) for small mammary tumours (cT1N0) sometimes leads to detection of internal mammary chain (IMC) drainage. This information is often ignored by physicians. The present study sought to determine the frequency with which an internal mammary SLN was identified by peritumoral injection of radioactive tracer, and then to determine the patients in whom identification of an internal mammary SLN could have an impact on the radiation treatment plan.

Background: The N-terminal-pro-B natriuretic peptide (Nt-pro-BNP) is of diagnostic and prognostic value in coronary artery disease (CAD). We assessed the relationship between Nt-pro-BNP and (1) the extent of ischemia on stress myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), and (2) changes between the basal and postexercise ejection fraction (EF), in stable patients with a normal EF.

Methods And Results: One hundred and two patients with stable, documented CAD (EF, 62% +/- 8%) underwent an exercise-rest thallium-201 gated-MPI and serial Nt-pro-BNP assays.
