Introduction: Community-acquired methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) infections have increased in recent years. CAMRSA necrotizing pneumonia and empyema are now more common in children.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of CA-MRSA pneumonia and its clinical and epidemiological characteristics compared to Streptococcus pneumoniae (SP) pneumonia in the same population.
Background: Kawasaki disease (EK) is an acute systemic vasculitis with a risk of developing coronary aneurysms.
Aim: To describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of children with EK in Argentina and to analyse the risk factors for the development of coronary's complications (CC).

Herein, we present an example of covalent cages, whose flexible framework undergoes extending-shrinking motion under halide control. In the absence of halide anions, the free cage assumes a flattened conformation: the cavity is compressed along the C axis passing through the tertiary amines, and the two tribenzylamine platforms are eclipsed. Halide encapsulation promotes a large conformational rearrangement of the cage, involving an extension of the cavity along the C axis and shrinkage along the equatorial plane.

A facile one-pot synthesis of 3-amino-[1,2,4]-triazolo[4,3-a]pyridines from thiosemicarbazides through anion mediated synthesis is reported. Thiosemicarbazides derived from 2-hydrazino pyridine, 5-chloro 2-hydrazino pyridine, and 2-hydrazine quinoline were formed in situ as anion receptors in the presence of TBAF. Under microwave heating, thiosemicarbazides furnished the triazolo pyridines in good to moderate yields.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe report the remarkable ability of 2,6-bis(1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine (btp) compounds 2 with appended olefin amide arms to self-template the formation of interlocked [2]catenane structures 3 in up to 50 % yield when subjected to olefin ring-closing metathesis in CH2 Cl2 . X-ray diffraction crystallography enabled the structural characterization of both the [2]catenane 3 a and the non-interlocked macrocycle 4 a. These [2]catenanes showed selective triazolyl hydrogen-bonding interactions with the tetrahedral phosphate anion when screened against a range of ions; 3 a,b are the first examples of selective [2]catenane hosts for phosphate.

Design: Cross-sectional study on key-relatives of clinically stable patients with a DSM-IV diagnosis of schizophrenia. Evaluation of: a) relationships of family burden with patient's clinical characteristics, family's socio-demographic variables, relative's attitudes toward the patient, professional and social support received by the family; b) differences in the levels of burden, attitudes and support received by the family with respect to geographical area and population density.
The formation of 5-lipoxygenase products (5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid [5-HETE], leukotriene B4 [LTB4], and leukotriene C4 [LTC4]) by polymorphonuclear and mononuclear leukocytes isolated from peripheral blood of patients with rheumatoid arthritis was evaluated and compared with the data obtained from a group of control subjects. Although the levels of arachidonic acid metabolites via 5-lipoxygenase pathway by stimulated polymorphonuclear cells were comparable between patients and controls, mononuclear leukocytes from patients synthesized, when stimulated, significantly greater amounts of 5-HETE, LTB4, and LTC4 than did cells isolated from normal subjects. In addition, the release of superoxide anion, stimulated by either a particulate or a soluble stimulus, was increased in mononuclear cells from patients.
