Management of patients with drug-induced type 1 Brugada pattern is complex and controversial. We report the case of a 66-year-old man affected by metastatic lung adenocarcinoma with type 1 Brugada phenocopy at electrocardiogram (ECG) after initiation of an oncological therapy with BRAF and MEK inhibitors.

Article Synopsis
  • Research on contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) in elderly STEMI patients (aged 85+) is limited, but this study highlights its prevalence and impacts.
  • In a study with 461 patients (average age 88.6 years), 22.1% developed CA-AKI, with chronic kidney disease as a major predictor.
  • Patients with CA-AKI experienced a significantly higher risk of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs) within a year, particularly increased rates of all-cause death and heart failure hospitalization.

ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treatment with primary percutaneous coronary intervention has dramatically impacted prognosis. However, despite satisfactory angiographic result, occurrence or persistence of coronary microvascular dysfunction after revascularization still affects long-term outcomes. The diagnostic and therapeutic value of understanding the status of coronary microcirculation is gaining attention in the cardiology community.

Background: Sarcopenia is the core component of frailty; however, its role in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a matter of debate. The Toronto Aortic Stenosis Quality of Life Questionnaire (TASQ) is a validated instrument for assessing quality of life (QoL) in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS).

Aims: We aim to evaluate the QoL of sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic patients with severe AS undergoing TAVR.

Aim: The aim of our study is to assess the predictors and the prognostic role of left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) recovery after Impella-supported percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: This retrospective, observational study included patients admitted for AMI who underwent Impella-supported PCI in two Italian high-volume cardiac catheterization laboratories. Only patients who underwent an echocardiographic assessment of left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) before the procedure (acute LVEF) and during follow-up (follow-up LVEF) were included in the present analysis.

Background: The best timing to perform percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) in patients undergoing TAVI is unknown. Most PCI are performed before TAVI, because of concerns about potential ischemic complications during valve implantation. In this study we aimed to compare short-and long-term outcomes of patients undergoing PCI before or after TAVI.

Background:  Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is the most common thrombotic complication in cirrhosis; however, local risk factors involved in its pathogenesis are still not fully investigated. The aim of the study was to evaluate hemostasis and endothelial damage in the portal vein in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension.

Methods:  Adult cirrhotics undergoing transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt were consecutively enrolled.
