We would like to remark on the mechanisms and therapeutic properties of honey, bee pollen and unsaponifiable fractions of vegetable oils in wound healing.

Three-year prospective study on fracture risk in postmenopausal women by quantitative ultrasound at the phalanges.

The purpose of this study was the calculation of fracture risk in a prospective study on postmenopausal women by quantitative ultrasound (QUS) at the phalanges. A total of 2341 postmenopausal women were recruited in 5 centers in Italy during 2006 and 2007 for QUS measurement during a screening program for osteoporosis. Two ultrasound parameters were collected: amplitude-dependent speed of sound (AD-SoS) and ultrasound bone profile index (UBPI).

Metabolic changes following 500 μg monthly administration of calcidiol: a study in normal females.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of monthly oral administration of 500 μg of calcidiol (25-hydroxyvitamin D(3)) for 4 months on both serum vitamin D levels and sequential changes of parameters of calcium metabolism; 18 normal women aged 24-72 years were investigated. There was a significant increase of serum 25(OH)D after the first administration; thereafter all values persisted significantly higher compared to the basal value (P < 0.001).

[Clinical aspects of osteoporosis].

The main clinical presentation of osteoporosis is fracture and its consequences. However a number of diseases and factors can induce bone loss and increase the risk of fracture. Therefore the clinical approach should be initially directed to exclude secondary osteoporosis.
