Background: The introduction of all- retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) has radically improved the prognosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), with cure rates above 80%. Mixed cryoglobulinemia vasculitis (MCV) is caused in ~90% of cases by chronic hepatitis C virus (HCVMCV) and more rarely by hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, or apparently noninfectious. HCVMCV develops in only ~5% of patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC), but risk factors other than female gender have not been identified so far. Study treatment was an induction phase with oral chlorambucil 6 mg/m2/day on weeks 1-6, 9-10, 13-14, 17-18, and 21-22, and intravenous rituximab 375 mg/m2 on day 1 of weeks 1-4, and 1,400 mg SC on weeks 9, 13, 17, and 21. Materials And Methods: We prospectively enrolled patients with a histologically proven primary nodal lymphoma to undergo 18F-FDG-PET/CT and WB-MRI, both performed within 15 days one from the other, either before starting treatment (baseline) or during treatment (interim). Positive and negative predictive values of WB-MRI for the identification of nodal and extra-nodal disease were measured.
Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) is a rare entity whose neoplastic cells retain a B-cell phenotype with expression of CD20. Radiotherapy is recommended for favorable stage IA disease while for other stages guidelines suggest therapeutic strategies similar to those used for classic HL. In recent years, immunotherapies (conjugated antibody and checkpoint inhibitors [CPI]) showed interesting results and were used as bridge therapies to allotransplant.
Aim: The aim of this retrospective study in Lazio region was to evaluate the impact of these new therapies on outcome after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) in comparison with standard chemotherapies used in the past.
Little is known of the course of COVID-19 and the antibody response to infection or vaccination in patients with hairy-cell leukaemia (HCL). Among a total of 58 HCL cases we studied in these regards, 37 unvaccinated patients, mostly enjoying a relatively long period free from anti-leukaemic treatment, developed COVID-19 between March 2020 and December 2021 with a usually favourable outcome (fatality rate: 5/37, 14%); however, active leukaemia, older age and more comorbidities were associated with a worse course. Postinfection (n = 11 cases) and postvaccination (n = 28) seroconversion consistently developed, except after recent anti-CD20 or venetoclax therapy, correlating with perivaccine B-cell count.
