Background: The recognition of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) as a cardiac risk factor has increased the interest in strategies that target cardiac adipose tissue.
Aim: The effect of bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS)-induced weight loss on EAT volume was evaluated in this study.
Methods: Fifteen bariatric patients, with (MS) or without (wMS) Metabolic Syndrome, underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using an open-bore scanner to assess EAT volume, visceral adipose tissue (VAT) thickness, and other cardiac morpho-functional parameters at baseline and 12 months after BMS.

Patients And Methods: Medical records of 1877 obese patients [body mass index (BMI) > 35 kg/m, aged 18-65 years, undergoing BS (n = 472, 111 with diabetes) or non-surgical medical treatment (n = 1405, 385 with diabetes), during the period 1999-2008 (visit 1)] were collected; non-surgical patients were matched for age, sex, BMI, and blood pressure, and life status and causes of death were ascertained through December 2016. Survival was compared across surgery patients and non-surgical patients using Kaplan-Meier plots and Cox regression analyses.

Methods: Food frequency (FF), food habits (FH), physical activity and life style (PA) as well as smoking habits (SH) were analyzed in 50 RYGB (25 M; aged: 24-64) and 50 SG patients (25 M; aged: 22-63) by means of a validated questionnaire, before (T0) and 6 months (T1) post bariatric surgery. A score for each section (FF, FH, PA, SH) was calculated.
Aim: To report about an additional case of biliary ileus after bariatric surgery is reported and extensively reviewing the literature on this topic.
Material Of Study: We reviewed the literature and found three cases of gallstone ileus (GI) that occurred after bariatric surgery.
Discussion: A 41 year old patient presented a GI eight years after a biliointestinal bypass (BIB) for morbid obesity.
