Mercury (Hg) is a global pollutant that bioaccumulates and biomagnifies in food chains and is associated with adverse effects in both humans and wildlife. We used feather samples from bird scavengers to evaluate Hg concentrations in two different areas of Northern Patagonia. Hg concentrations were analyzed in feathers obtained from turkey vultures (Cathartes aura), Black Vultures (Coragyps atratus), and southern crested caracaras (Caracara plancus) from the two areas of Northern Patagonia (Argentina): Bariloche and El Valle.

The tractographic reconstruction of anatomical and microstructural features provided by Magnetic Resonance (MR) Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) gives essential information of brain damage in several pathological animal models. The optimization of a tractographic protocol is undertaken in normal rats for the future construction of a reference atlas, as prerequisite for preclinical pathological in-vivo studies. High field, preclinical in-vivo DTI faces important difficulties relevant to Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), distortion, high required resolution, movement sensitivity.

We aimed to study glucose metabolism by intravenous and oral glucose tolerance testing in 32 children affected by acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and who were off-therapy for at least 1 year. 22 (69%) children presented with impaired first-phase insulin response, which in nine children was associated with impaired glucose tolerance and in one child with overt diabetes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe treated 30 consecutive untreated patients aged > 70 years with advanced aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with 6 courses of cyclophosphamide, mitoxantrone, etoposide, bleomycin, vinblastine and dexamethasone (D-VICEMB). The global response was 93%. The 6-year overall survival and progression-free survival were 50%, and disease-free survival was 63%.
