Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by severe neurological signs, affecting the peripheral and central nervous system, caused by reduced frataxin protein (FXN) levels. Although several studies have highlighted cellular dysfunctions in neurons, there is limited information on the effects of FXN depletion in astrocytes and on the potential non-cell autonomous mechanisms affecting neurons in FRDA. In this study, we generated a model of FRDA cerebellar astrocytes to unveil phenotypic alterations that might contribute to cerebellar atrophy.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, lethal neurodegenerative disease mostly affecting people around 50-60 years of age. TDP-43, an RNA-binding protein involved in pre-mRNA splicing and controlling mRNA stability and translation, forms neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions in an overwhelming majority of ALS patients, a phenomenon referred to as TDP-43 proteinopathy. CDKN2A pathogenic variants are well known to be associated with cutaneous melanoma and noncutaneous tumors (NCTs). Herein, we investigated the temporal correlation between the first cutaneous melanoma and NCT both in CDKN2A mutation carriers (MUT) and in wild-type melanoma patients, a poorly explored issue to date. Evidence indicates that different pathways of malignant degeneration underlie the development of endometriosis-associated ovarian tumors of endometrioid and clear cell histotypes. The aim of this study was to compare data from patients affected by these two histotypes to investigate the hypothesis of a dichotomy in the histogenesis of these tumors. Introduction: This paper evaluated the accuracy of a computer-aided design and manufacturing indirect bonding technique using a new customized 3D-printed transfer tray and a flash-free adhesive system for orthodontic bonding.

Objectives: The PRECISE criteria for serial multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the prostate during active surveillance recommend the use of a dedicated scoring system (PRECISE score) to assess the likelihood of clinically significant radiological change. This pilot study assesses the effect of an interactive teaching course on prostate MRI during active surveillance in assessing radiological change in serial imaging.

Methods: Eleven radiology fellows and registrars with different experience in prostate MRI reading participated in a dedicated teaching course where they initially evaluated radiological change (based on their previous training in prostate MRI reading) independently in fifteen patients on active surveillance (baseline and follow-up scan), and then attended a lecture on the PRECISE score.
