Introduction: Literature about trichoscopy of permanent chemotherapy-induced alopecia (pCIA) is still scarce, while no data were published regarding reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). The aim of our study is to monitor the different phases of chemotherapy-induced alopecia development with trichoscopy and RCM, in order to identify predictor factors for permanent alopecia.

Methods: This multicentre, prospective, observational study evaluated patients with cancer who were candidates for chemotherapy with a drug implicated in pCIA development.

Urban flora is a more and more interesting research subject, in light of the ongoing environmental change and biological homogenisation, since urban contexts are much more diversified that natural ones and, therefore, they offer much more colonisation possibilities to allochthonous species or unexpected refuges for endangered species. We have, therefore, added our own contribution by analysing the spontaneous vascular flora of 7 cities of the Emilia-Romagna Po Plain (northern Italy), one of the more culturally and economically developed areas in Europe. The global floristic list was 1305 species, spanning from 432 to 756 species in each individual city; 219 of them were constantly present in all cities examined.

Long-term, immunosuppression-free allograft survival has been induced in human and nonhuman primate (NHP) kidney recipients after nonmyeloablative conditioning and donor bone marrow transplantation (DBMT), resulting in transient mixed hematopoietic chimerism. However, the same strategy has consistently failed in NHP heart transplant recipients. Mechanical stimuli have multiple effects on cell behavior, affecting a number of cellular processes including orientation, proliferation or apoptosis, migration and invasion, the production of extracellular matrix proteins, the activation and translocation of transcription factors, the expression of different genes such as those involved in inflammation and the reprogramming of cell fate. The recent development of cell stretching devices has paved the way for the study of cell reactions to stretching stimuli, reproducing physiological situations that are experienced by cells in many tissues and related to functions such as breathing, heart beating and digestion. In this work, we review the highly-relevant contributions cell stretching devices can provide in the field of mechanobiology.

Tolerance of mouse kidney allografts arises in grafts that develop regulatory tertiary lymphoid organs (rTLOs). Single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) data and adoptive transfer of alloreactive T cells after transplantation showed that cytotoxic CD8+ T cells are reprogrammed within the accepted graft to an exhausted/regulatory-like phenotype mediated by IFN-γ. Establishment of rTLOs was required because adoptive transfer of alloreactive T cells prior to transplantation results in kidney allograft rejection.

Mouse models have been instrumental in understanding mechanisms of transplant rejection and tolerance, but cross-study reproducibility and translation of experimental findings into effective clinical therapies are issues of concern. The Mouse Models in Transplantation symposium gathered scientists and physician-scientists involved in basic and clinical research in transplantation to discuss the strengths and limitations of mouse transplant models and strategies to enhance their utility. Participants recognized that increased procedure standardization, including the use of prespecified, defined endpoints, and statistical power analyses, would benefit the field.

We analysed the spatially explicit floristic information available in the herbarium of Ulisse Aldrovandi (1551-1586) to track floristic changes in the surroundings of Bologna across five centuries. Aldrovandi's data were compared with the by Girolamo Cocconi (1883) and the Floristic Database of Emilia-Romagna (1965-2021). We explored potential variations in native range and life forms composition, and habitat affinity of the species in the three floras, also contrasting between native and alien species.
