Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is linked to several cancers, including anal and oral cancers. The incidence of anal cancer is particularly high among HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM). DNA methylation markers have shown promise as biomarkers for identifying precancerous lesions and cancer in HPV-infected individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a rare autoimmune skin disorder, becoming more frequent with associations noted with certain diabetes medications called gliptins.
  • A study analyzed 30 idiopathic bullous pemphigoid (IBP) patients and 86 gliptin-associated BP (GABP) patients to explore genetic risk factors.
  • The research found a significant link between the HLA-DQB1*03:01 allele and both IBP and GABP, suggesting genetic markers that could indicate susceptibility to BP, particularly in individuals who have taken gliptins.

Article Synopsis
  • Cutaneous pseudolymphomas are a diverse group of skin diseases that look like cutaneous lymphoma but have different causes and symptoms, and they may appear without any known trigger or following factors like medications, tattoos, or infections.
  • These conditions can present in various ways, from single lesions to widespread issues, with some cases lasting from weeks to years and potentially recurring after disappearing on their own or after treatment.
  • The case study discussed involves a man with a single nodule that was identified as resembling a primary cutaneous CD30+ T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, highlighting the complex nature of diagnosing these skin diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • * This case is unique as it documents necrotizing mpox in an individual with advanced HIV, with the virus persisting for over 11 months and extensive immunological analysis performed.
  • * The study highlights that severe immune deficiency and co-infections may weaken immune responses, necessitating further research on immune reactions to monkeypox in immunosuppressed individuals to enhance treatment and prevention strategies.

A 56-year-old woman presented to the emergency to be department with diarrhea, asthenia, cough, and dysgeusia. The patient had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and was found infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). On physical examination, a small basal cell carcinoma (BCC) lesion was identified on her scalp; however, following the administration of noninvasive ventilation, the appearance of both macroscopic and microscopic BCC worsened dramatically.

Background: Recently, several case-control studies demonstrated an association between gliptins and bullous pemphigoid (BP) occurrence. However, data on the clinical and immunologic features of gliptin-associated bullous pemphigoid (GABP) are controversial.

Objective: This study aimed to clinically and immunologically characterize a large cohort of GABP patients to get an insight into the pathophysiology of this emerging drug-induced variant of BP.

Article Synopsis
  • Surveillance of human leishmaniasis in Europe is mainly limited to specific countries, focusing on local infections, and lacks integrated analysis across different nations until now.
  • This study aimed to provide a broader viewpoint by analyzing cases of autochthonous and imported leishmaniasis from 15 medical centers across 11 European countries over a five-year period.
  • Results showed 1,142 diagnosed cases, with a majority being cutaneous leishmaniasis imported from outside Europe, emphasizing the need for collaborative data collection to monitor changing patterns of the disease.

Emerging literature evidence shows that the manifestations of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, encompass alterations of the pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and neurological system. Moreover, hematologic and dermatologic manifestations have been documented. The aim of this review is to summarize the dermatologic manifestations of COVID-19 involving the hair and nails in a narrative way.

Immune recovery folliculitis (IRF) is defined as the development of an inflammatory disorder of the facial pilo-sebaceous unit due to the immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS). Skin lesions can be related to an immune response against skin saprophyte bacteria (e.g.

In severe COVID-19, which is characterized by blood clots and neutrophil-platelet aggregates in the circulating blood and different tissues, an increased incidence of cardiovascular complications and venous thrombotic events has been reported. The inflammatory storm that characterizes severe infections may act as a driver capable of profoundly disrupting the complex interplay between platelets, endothelium, and leukocytes, thus contributing to the definition of COVID-19-associated coagulopathy. In this frame, P-selectin represents a key molecule expressed on endothelial cells and on activated platelets, and contributes to endothelial activation, leucocyte recruitment, rolling, and tissue migration.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed COVID-19 patients in a hospital in Italy to explore factors influencing prolonged SARS-CoV-2 RNA shedding and viral clearance.
  • It found that patients with comorbidities, lymphopenia, or moderate/severe respiratory issues had lower chances of viral clearance, with a median viral shedding duration of 18 days.
  • Achieving viral clearance significantly improved clinical recovery rates and reduced the risk of death or the need for mechanical ventilation, emphasizing the necessity for timely hospital admission for symptomatic patients.

It is not yet entirely clear what is the relevance of skin symptoms and what clinical implications are related to their appearance in COVID-19 patients. We describe two cases of COVID-19-associated pneumonia, which presented skin manifestations in advanced stage of illness, when nasopharyngeal swabs became negative for SARS-CoV-2. The first case presented erythematous, maculopapular lesions; the second developed petechial, vesicular and blood-encrusted lesions on the limbs.

Background: At skin level, a cancerization field (CF) indicates some chronically photoexposed areas in which, besides a primary tumor, histological or biomolecular modifications without clinical signs are present. Active telethermography (ATT) allows us to observe the imaging of a hyperthermic halo (HH) surrounding the tumor . The Authors hypothesize HH as a possible expression of CF.

Malignant Mesothelioma is an uncommon and very aggressive tumor that accounts for 1% of all the deaths secondary to malignancy in humans. Interestingly, this neoplasm has been occasionally described in companion animals as well. Aim of this study was the preclinical evaluation of the combination of piroxicam with platinum-based intracavitary chemotherapy in pets.

The presence of a granulomatous reaction in lesions of cutaneous lymphomas has been described in the past in several cases. Especially in mycosis fungoides, a "granulomatous" variant of the disease has been well characterized. We studied the clinicopathologic features of cutaneous lymphomas with prominent granulomatous reaction, including both cutaneous T-cell lymphomas and B-cell lymphomas (primary cutaneous lymphoma 22, secondary cutaneous lymphoma one).
