A strain isolated from soil samples from Cerrado, Brazil, showed antimicrobial activity. Its genome sequence was acquired (GS20 FLX Titanium 454 platform) and comprises 108 contigs (, 198,427 bp) and 6,810 predicted sequences. Here, we shed some light on the antimicrobial genes of the strain, including a nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) module identified as part of a pelgipeptin gene cluster.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Alessandra Maria Moreira Reis"

  • - Alessandra Maria Moreira Reis focuses on microbial genomics, particularly in identifying antimicrobial-producing strains, as shown in her research on *Paenibacillus elgii AC13* isolated from the Cerrado region of Brazil.
  • - Her 2018 study, published in *Genome Announc*, presents the draft genome sequence of *P. elgii AC13*, detailing its genetic composition, which includes 108 contigs totaling 198,427 base pairs and 6,810 predicted sequences.
  • - The research highlights the antimicrobial properties of the strain and identifies a nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) module linked to a gene cluster responsible for the production of pelgipeptin, providing insights into potential applications in antimicrobial development.
