Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated nuclear receptors. Three subtypes of PPARs (alpha, beta, and gamma) have been identified in different tissues. PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma ligands inhibit cell proliferation and induce differentiation in several human cell models.
