Purpose: The study aimed to identify parameters that could predict oncological and functional outcomes in patients with pT4aN0 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) who underwent open partial horizontal laryngectomy (OPHL). The role of paratracheal neck dissection (PTND) was analyzed as the primary outcome. Additionally, the study compared the outcomes of patients who underwent postoperative radio/chemotherapy (PORT/PORCT) with those who refused or did not adhere to adjuvant treatments.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in the most severe forms is associated with a poor quality of life. Dupilumab has been suggested as an add-on treatment option for severe CRSwNP. Severe CRSwNP patients treated with dupilumab in different rhinological units were followed up at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months from the first administration and were considered for this study.

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) represents 25−30% of all CRS cases, and in the most severe forms it is associated with a poor quality of life and a high rate of nasal polyps’ recurrence after surgery. Dupilumab has been suggested as a treatment option for severe CRSwNP. Methods: Patients with severe CRSwNP receiving dupilumab from January 2021 were followed up at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months from the first administration and were considered for this study.

Among the first clinical symptoms of the SARS-CoV-2 infection is olfactory−gustatory deficit; this continues for weeks and, in some cases, can be persistent. We prospectively evaluated 162 patients affected by COVID-19 using a visual analogue scale (VAS) for nasal and olfactory−gustatory symptoms. Patients were checked after 7, 14, 21, 28, 90, and 180 days.

Synopsis of recent research by authors named "Alessandra Di Chicco"

  • - Alessandra Di Chicco's recent research primarily focuses on otolaryngology, particularly investigating treatment outcomes for laryngeal carcinoma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP).
  • - In her study on pT4aN0 laryngeal carcinoma, she highlights the significance of paratracheal neck dissection and adjuvant therapy in improving oncological and functional results after open partial horizontal laryngectomy.
  • - Di Chicco also evaluates the effectiveness of dupilumab in patients with severe CRSwNP, aiming to enhance their quality of life by measuring nasal patency and olfactory function post-treatment, as well as exploring the long-lasting effects of COVID-19 on smell and taste.
