Rat bone marrow stem cells isolation and culture as a bone formative experimental system.

Bone marrow mesenchymal cells have been identified as a source of pluripotent stem cells with multipotential potential and differentiation in to the different cells types such as are osteoblast, chondroblast, adipoblast. In this research we describe pioneering experiment of tissue engineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina, of the isolation and differentiation rat bone marrow stromal cells in to the osteoblast cells lineages. Rat bone marrow stromal cells were isolated by method described by Maniatopulos using their plastic adherence capatibility.

Albumin-bound lipids induce free cytoplasmic calcium oscillations in human osteoblast-like cells.

[Ca(2+)](i) oscillations were found in human osteoblast-like cells (hOB cells) exposed to high-lipid bovine serum albumin (BSA), but not when exposed to low-lipid BSA. These [Ca(2+)](i) oscillations were inhibited by heptanol and suramin, which implies that gap junctions and purinergic signalling may be important for these [Ca(2+)](i) oscillations. The high-lipid BSA preparation that was used contains arachidonic acid.

Women with palmoplantar pustulosis have disturbed calcium homeostasis and a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus and psychiatric disorders: a case-control study.

Palmoplantar pustulosis is characterized by pustule formation in the acrosyringium. Nearly 50% of palmoplantar pustulosis sera produce immunofluorescence of the palmar papillary endothelium from healthy subjects, but also of the endothelium of normal parathyroid gland. With a case-control design the levels of calcium and parathyroid hormone in serum were measured in 60 women with palmoplantar pustulosis and 154 randomly selected population-based control women.

Arg-vasopressin increases proliferation of human osteoblast-like cells and decreases production of interleukin-6 and macrophage colony-stimulating factor.

Patients with arginine-vasopressin (AVP) deficiency have been reported to have a decreased bone mass. The mechanism behind this is not known. In this study, the effects of AVP on primary human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells and SaOS-2 cells were investigated.

Oxytocin stimulates proliferation of human osteoblast-like cells.

Oxytocin receptors have recently been demonstrated in human osteoblast-like (hOB) cells. In this study, oxytocin 100-1000 pmol/l increased cell proliferation of primary cultures of hOB cells, measured by [3H]thymidine incorporation, (P<0.01).
