The microRNA (miRNA) microRNA-34a (miR-34a) regulates a number of genes involved in cell cycle control and is therefore considered to have a high therapeutic potential. MiR-34a expression is often downregulated in cancer cells and its restoration has been shown to exert a tumor-suppressive effect. However, effective and safe delivery of synthetic miRNA analogs into cancer cells remains a challenge.
