Unlabelled: The currently used immunohistochemical approach in determining the estrogen receptor (ER) positivity of breast cancers (BCs) is inherently subjective and additionally limited by its semi-quantitative nature. The application of software in the analysis of digitized slide images may overcome some of these limitations. However, the utilization of such an approach requires that the entire staining procedure is standardized.

Proper development of each component of the reproductive tract is imperative for successful natural reproduction. The aim was to investigate some morphological features of the fetal uterus in early phases of its development. The uteruses of 65 fetuses of different gestational age were included and each of them was measured in three dimensions: uterine length (UL), uterine width (BC) and the antero-posterior (sagittal) thickness of the uterine fundus (FT) using ImageJ computer program.

Background/aims: The study examines the relationship between activity of acid DNase and 5'nucleotidase (5'NT) and histological changes in reflux esophagitis.

Methodology: Thirty-three patients were examined, 15 of whom with mild esophagitis, 12 with severe esophagitis and 6 with Barrett's epithelium. Patients were classified into 3 groups, according to Ismail-Beigi histological criteria: mild esophagitis group (ME); severe esophagitis group (SE); Barrett's esophagitis group (BE).
