Article Synopsis
  • Patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) can negatively affect long-term survival and quality of life after aortic valve replacement, especially with biological valves.
  • A study of 595 patients revealed that 69.8% experienced moderate to severe PPM with biological prostheses, leading to significantly shorter survival rates compared to those without PPM.
  • In contrast, mechanical prostheses showed no notable survival differences related to PPM, and overall quality of life scores remained similar across groups, highlighting the importance of considering PPM at surgery for biological valves.
