The most commonly occurring pathology of carotid arteries (CAs) is an atherosclerotic stenosing lesion thereof (accounting for up to 80% of all cases), to be immediately followed by pathological tortuosity of carotid arteries. Of much less frequent occurrence are vasculitides, vasculopathies and thrombotic lesions [1-4]. The authors revealed rarely encountered, yet clinically significant abnormalities of the CA structure, which we called "pathological valves" (PVs).

The purpose of this study was to assess short- and long-term efficacy of combined-modality therapy (comprising PGE1-group preparations and immunocorrection) used to treat indolent trophic ulcers in patients presenting with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and cutaneous angiitis. Examined herein were both immediate and remote therapeutic outcomes obtained in patients suffering from indolent trophic ulcers secondary to CVI (post-thrombophlebic disease [PTPD] and varicose disease [VD]), as well as ulcers resulting from vasculitis or vasculopathy. The conventional therapy was supplemented with infusion of PGE1-group preparations and immunocorrection.

During 2002-2010 years the authors made more than 14 thousand USDS of the brachycephalic zone arteries. In 32 cases (32 men and 8 women) there were disturbances of blood flow due to local intima dysplasia (hyperplasia) in the zone of bifurcation of the common carotid artery by the detected "pathological valve". Alterations in the bifurcation of the common carotid artery were confirmed by angiographic investigation.

Analysed herein are the immediate outcomes of primary reconstructive operations on carotid arteries performed in conditions of regional anaesthesia in patients over 70 years old and those younger than 60 years old. In each group, we singled out the risk factors of operative surgical treatment. The group over 70 years included a total of 55 patients who endured a total of 61 carotid operations.

Objective: To study the dynamics of the indices of microcirculation and the immune status in patients suffering from indolent trophic ulcers with the preserved arterial blood flow, as well as a possibility of treating them by means of PGEi-group preparations combined with immunocorrection.

Patients And Methods: From 2002 to 2006 in the Clinic of Vascular Surgery of Municipal Clinical Hospital No 3 of the city of Chelyabinsk, we examined a total of 158 patients suffering from indolent trophic ulcers of the lower extremities with the preserved arterial blood flow (venous ulcers and cutaneous angiitis). Also studied were the immune status and tissue perfusion indices, cytology of the ulcers' surface.

Surgical treatment of stenosing lesions of carotid arteries has proved to be a reliable method of prevention and management of chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency. The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic possibilities of duplex scanning from the position of an isolated diagnostic method for safe and efficient reconstruction of carotid arteries. The study comprised 177 patients presenting with occlusive-and-stenotic lesions of carotid arteries, who underwent a total of 204 reconstructive operations.

The paper is concerned with repeated surgical treatment for varicosity. The studies were carried out of the efficacy of surgical treatment at the specialized angio-surgical and general surgery hospitals. It has been discovered that after treatment at the specialized hospitals the patients applied for repeated surgical assistance 6 times less frequently.

Experimental investigations (in 26 dogs) and clinical observations (57 patients) have shown the possibility to improve peripheral circulation in cases of occlusion of the arteries of lower extremities with the syndrome of diabetic foot by means of laser osteo-trepanation of the leg and foot bones and of laser tunneling the leg muscles.

The present work analyzes the results of an experimental study concerned with the treatment of chronic extremity ischemia. The experiments were carried out on 29 mongrel dogs. Chronic ischemia of the right hind extremity was simulated in 24 dogs (the superficial femoral artery was ligated just beneath the iliac artery and over its whole length as were all its collaterals).

Operation on the carotid arteries (CA) prevent strokes in patients with occlusions and stenoses of these arteries. We have worked out the measures for preventing perioperative strokes. During interventions on the CA, iatrogenic injuries to the cranial nerves (CN) are paid little attention.
